A huge thank you to Jordan Cummins who we were delighted to welcome as our first keynote speaker at our recent conference. We invited Jordan to share his thoughts with us on how he sees the relationship between health and wealth. Jordan considered how the business community can play a stronger role in delivering the strategic ambitions of our health and care services, and why is it in their interest? Conversely, why should the NHS and social care value the contribution of industry and take the time to develop meaningful collaborations? What broader role does the NHS have in driving economic growth? Talking about the new government, Jordan commented: “They have come out of the traps fast on public sector transformation and public sector pay. And we have a health secretary who describes the NHS in part as an ‘economic ministry’. Long gone are the times that health and wealth are two separate discussions and ‘thou shalt not meet’.” If you missed it you can watch Jordan in action and find out more about our conference, which included keynote speeches, panel discussions and an innovation exhibition zone, here: https://lnkd.in/eYwRKP6y
The CBI (Confederation of British Industry) recently joined Health Innovation West of England and University of the West of England to outline the role of the Industrial Strategy on the UK's health and wealth agenda...and how we can all make it work 👇 🏥 💰 https://shorturl.at/1FIc9

A huge thank you to Hassan Chaudhury HonFAPM, it was great to have him as one of our keynote speakers at our Conference last month. The theme of the day was ‘Connect, Innovate, Transform’ and offered an opportunity for delegates to make connections across our local health and care innovation community, to share ideas and learning and to provide a springboard for co-creating new approaches across system, organisational and sector boundaries. Our goal was to give colleagues much-needed headspace away from their day jobs to focus on the important as well as the urgent, providing ideas and inspiration, practical tools and resources. Attendees have told us they came away with a better understanding of how innovation can help tackle health and care challenges and found it a good opportunity to connect with others and learn from the work they are involved in. Last month, I gave a keynote for the Annual Conference of Health Innovation West of England (full 26 minute video below). I presented my ‘train tracks’ thesis in public for the very first time i.e. my argument that we should enable standardised infrastructure that enables health innovators to deploy their solutions repeatedly. The thesis was first published in a long essay on Peerr earlier in the summer - https://lnkd.in/ev8VHmHr I argue that we need platforms for point solutions, rather than trying to cope with lots of point solutions or compromising with generic platforms. I also argue that the innovation ecosystem is the wrong unit of analysis here (although I truly believe in the power of ecosystems); it’s the innovation journey that deserves our attention, and which requires alignment. It’s probably not a comfortable presentation to listen to for those involved in innovation, but I tried to be kind while remaining direct. N.B. The other keynotes that day by Jordan Cummins and Verena Stocker were truly exceptional, with gratitude for the invitation, and immense credit to the organisers for a wonderful day, especially Vanesther Hamer. https://lnkd.in/eh2t_vMj
