Borehamwood’s cinema was officially relaunched yesterday (1 December), with a special event to mark the beginning of a new era – and a new name - for the venue. There was a guest appearance by EastEnders’ Michelle Collins at the event to relaunch the now-called REEL Studio 70 – its name inspired by the town’s rich filmmaking heritage – with Cllr Jeremy Newmark, Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Consultation, Communications and Asset Management; Cllr Richard Butler, Mayor of Hertsmere; and Cllr Alpha Bird Collins, Mayor of Elstree and Borehamwood, also among those in attendance. Cllr Newmark said: “The relaunch of Borehamwood’s cinema, at The Point, is fantastic for the town and the wider area. We’ve always maintained that, with such a proud film and television heritage, it was almost unthinkable that Borehamwood should be left without a cinema for our residents at the heart of the community. “With valuable jobs saved, the process of us working with Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council, REEL Cinema and the owner of the building on this project has been incredibly beneficial and has shown how much can be achieved for residents when there is a collaborative approach and a common goal. “We are committed to supporting the film industry in the long term as we understand its importance, significance and value to our borough and its role in enabling us to fulfil our plans on economic development.”
