Meet Liam, one of our Green Start success stories at Home Group 🌱 Liam joined us through the Green Start programme, a paid placement with Housing Employment Network North East (HENNE) that helps people gain real work experience in roles focused on sustainability. After deciding to move on from a career in car mechanics, Liam saw Green Start as the perfect opportunity to pick up new skills and start fresh in the property sector. From the moment we met him, Liam’s enthusiasm and drive stood out. He wasn’t just looking for a job, he wanted to learn, grow, and make a difference. And he’s done exactly that. We set up a six week learning programme to help Liam settle in and get to grips with the work. He completed it in just three weeks, quickly picking up knowledge and applying it with real confidence. Since then, he’s taken on more complex projects, contributing to live retrofit work and making a real impact. Meet Rachel, a Development and Delivery Apprentice at Home Group, who is working towards becoming a Chartered Surveyor. 🎓 At 18, she left Cardiff for London, choosing hands-on experience over the traditional university route. Balancing work, study, and life with the support of Home Group. "Balancing university, work, and life has taught me resilience. Home Group has been incredibly supportive, always pushing me to grow. I’m proud to be an apprentice in such a competitive field." One of her biggest highlights so far has been winning the CIOB Student Challenge in the North. At Home Group, we’re proud to support young adults with a learning disability, autism, or both through DFN Project SEARCH, helping them build skills and confidence for full-time jobs. As we celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, we highlight the impact of supported internships! Our interns complete three work placements, some with Home Group and others with local businesses. With employability sessions and job coaching, they get the support they need to succeed. 70% of interns move into paid work and two former interns are now in full-time apprenticeships with us. #NAW2025 #DFNProjectSEARCH #SupportingYoungPeople #SkillsForWork

With the cut of the ceremonial ribbon, by our brilliant customer Lynne, our new extra care scheme in Leeds has officially opened. The Sycamores is the latest extra care scheme we have built in the city alongside local partners and Leeds City Council, designed to provide safe but independent living to over 55s in the city. We are providing 15 two-bed and 47 one-bed apartments to local older people in Leeds, independent but with 24/7 support on hand, alongside integration with the local community to prevent social isolation. Simon Lightwood, MP for Wakefield and Rothwell, attended the opening and was full of praise for the new scheme: "It was great to be at the opening of The Sycamores. Being able to live independently - but safely - is so vital to the wellbeing of many older people. "As many people seek alternatives to full-time residential care, its great to see Leeds City Council and Home Group investing into the health and welfare of our communities. Our 30-year roadmap to green our homes and contribute to the UK net-zero targets features a number of large-scale approaches, including retrofit work, building new energy efficient homes, and introducing greener energy sources. But there are also crucial smaller steps we can all take, across our business and the wider sector. Ensuring our waste management practices are effective is one of these steps. Last year alone, our commitment to ensuring we comply with green and sustainable waste management practices saved the equivalent energy to power 52,643 British homes for one day. That's almost the equivalent of our entire housing stock powered for a day! Colleagues across all functions of our business play a role in ensuring we maintain these sustainable waste management practices, and we continue to champion new innovations around sustainability. #SocialHousing #Sustainability #WasteManagement
