On 12 June, members of the HSOT Humanitarian Roster and the Civilian Stabilisation Group (CSG) roster came together at Toynbee Hall for the Annual Consultant Conference. Dan Jarman, HSOT Deputy Director covering Deployment and Roster Management, said, “We were pleased to host another Consultant Conference. The day was an important opportunity for roster consultants to hear from department seniors and discuss global contexts and challenges. FCDO colleagues were on hand to answer questions around FCDO thinking (within the constraints of the election period), whilst consultants also shared their reflections and insights to inform approaches. The UK government draws on a roster of experts to support crises, conflict and instability around the world. Consultants have niche skillsets and are on standby to deploy providing crucial support for FCDO to achieve its strategic priorities. The first shelter coverage kits have arrived using the US-built temporary pier. The UK has played a central role in establishing the Cyprus maritime corridor. In April, the FCDO committed up to £9.7 million for aid deliveries; logistical expertise and equipment support to the corridor, such as forklift trucks and storage units; and expertise, to maximise the levels of aid reaching those people who desperately need it. The UK has been clear that the corridor is not a replacement for land routes, which remain the most effective way of getting aid into Gaza. The UK aid-funded Humanitarian and Stabilisation Operations Team (HSOT) is providing the UK Government with capacity and specialist expertise for the humanitarian response in Gaza. HSOT delivers this as part of the Humanitarian Emergency Response Operations and Stabilisation (HEROS) Programme, which is managed by global impact firm Palladium. The first shipment of UK aid has left the port in Cyprus. Jointly with the US, Cyprus, and other partners, we have created a sea route between Cyprus and a temporary pier off Gaza that allows ships to bring international aid directly over the shore. Our initial contribution totals nearly 100 tonnes of shelter coverage kits. We are working hard to get more aid into Gaza. https://lnkd.in/e2ZBJ623
