Just a few weeks ago, this was an empty field near where the HyWaves journey began. We started with a small proof-of-concept project, using only a few solar panels and a lab-scale hydrogen production stack, to validate the HyWaves DC/DC power management and control system in the real world. Thanks to the rapid progress of the HyWaves team and the incredible support from our industry and academic (Cranfield University, University of South Wales) partners plus Innovate UK, we now have a 42-metre long solar array supplied by 5B and and the foundations for a new hydrogen research facility. By early next year, this 50kW array will be connected to a hydrogen electrolyser powered by HyWaves technology, along with battery storage and an EV charger—all running on 100% solar energy. ‘HyWaves delivers the direct current (DC) from the photovoltaic (PV) solar panels to electrolyser without requiring intermediate power conversion steps found in current facilities. HyWaves’ switching approach is highly efficient, with up to 99.5% of the PV energy transferred to hydrogen production, yielding a higher production volume from a given site, driving down the levelised cost of hydrogen (LCOH) along with removing the need for expensive power electronics. Having developed and tested at a smaller scale, a larger solar to hydrogen facility is being set up at the University of South Wales Hydrogen Centre thanks in part to the funding of £386,000 from Innovate UK as part of the South West Wales Net Zero Launchpad programme.' #Hydrogen #HyWaves #USW

Yesterday, we moved from our Zoom boxes to County Hall to welcome the finalists of the Hydrogen Innovation Challenge! Big thanks to Christopher Morris and Matthew McCann for kicking things off, and to all the innovators and their teams who joined us from across the UK. We had some great conversations around shared sector challenges, practical solutions, and the power of collaboration to amplify innovators within hydrogen. The day was also a chance for Sustainable Ventures to get even clearer on how we can support these innovators and help drive forward the industries essential to the UK’s decarbonisation goals. The HyWaves team visited our friends at Nium to discuss co-locating their state-of-the-art ammonia producing reactor alongside HyWaves solar-to-hydrogen plant at Cranfield University. Nium will off-take our hydrogen and demonstrate the potential of producing green ammonia directly from HyWaves' dedicated DC to DC solar PV plant in the field. Exciting progress at the Renewable Hydrogen Research and Development Centre, University of South Wales! ☀ Last Friday, 5B completed the installation of our second Maverick solar array. This brings us one step closer to demonstrating how renewable energy can drive efficient hydrogen production. We’re grateful to Stephen Carr and his team for their support in this partnership, and a huge thanks to 5B for their outstanding work. Special appreciation also goes to Lightsource bp for their assistance in making this installation possible. With the solar arrays now in place at both of our pilot sites, we are eager to move forward with the next phase of our projects in partnership with Innovate UK. A significant milestone was reached yesterday at our Cranfield University site! The incredible team from 5B successfully deployed the 50 kW Maverick solar array, marking an important step forward in our pilot project journey. We were also thrilled to welcome visitors from Lightsource bp, ABB, and more, who joined us for an insightful presentation and lively discussion about our technology and its potential to revolutionize renewable hydrogen production. Next, we’re preparing for the deployment of another 5B Maverick array at our pilot site at the University of South Wales.
