There is no second screen. Sports have to win on two screens at once. Time to rip up the rule book on what is considered the primary, and secondary screen. Sport dominates the big screen. But our phones dominate our attention. Televisions are no longer anyone's primary viewing platform, Smartphones have that crown. Senior Vice President of Tech & Operations, James Clement, took the stage at the Broadcast Sport Summit last week to discuss the evolution of sports broadcasting in 2024. During an insightful conversation, the panel emphasized the shift from traditional linear TV to a more personalized, multi-platform approach, the importance of storytelling in sports content, and highlighted the need for broadcasters to adapt to changing viewer habits, as younger audiences consume highlights over full matches. Addressing the role of automation in enhancing content delivery, James explained, “Providing we protect that storytelling, we can make it easier for people to tell the story, to spend less time doing search and recovery and index. We want to be able to get that content to the people who know how to tell the story as quickly as possible, so they’ll be able to share it.”
