InterTradeIreland's leadership team with Taoiseach Simon Harris at an event to celebrate 25 years of the North South Ministerial Council this evening. At InterTradeIreland our approach is value through collaboration - we have a unique role as an all-island connector, to bring businesses, policymakers and business support eco-systems together to accelerate growth. The Taoiseach was interested to hear about our partnership working with Invest Northern Ireland and Enterprise Ireland, in particular around growing the number of new first time exporters. We would also like to acknowledge the hard work of the North South Ministerial Council over the past quarter of a century and its progress in fostering cooperation and collaboration across the island. Our Chief Executive Margaret Hearty delivered this year’s Sir George Quiqley lecture with Alice Mansergh the Chief Executive of Tourism Ireland. The Centre for Cross Border Cooperation hosts the annual event to honor the vision of Sir George, who believed that a vital element of a sustainable peace process on the island was through strong economic and business cooperation to harness the enormous potential which businesses, public bodies, local authorities and communities in both parts of the island have to offer. Margaret highlighted the unique role and significant contribution that InterTradeIreland has played over the last 25 years to grow trade, collaboration and prosperity on the island of Ireland. #25 #WeAreInterTradeIreland.

As InterTradeIreland celebrates its 25th anniversary, cross-border trade in 2023 hit a new high of £12.5 billion/ €15 billion. The latest information from the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency includes trade in good and services for 2023. Colin McCabrey, Director of Trade says “These figures illustrate that the cross-border market is going from strength to strength, and it’s driven by SMEs on the island. In fact 81 percent of total cross-border trade comes from small and medium sized enterprises. At InterTradeIreland our job is to help businesses to take advantage of the cross-border market, and our trade export pathway assists SMEs at every step of their export journey. We know that cross-border trade and collaboration generates prosperity - it introduces businesses to a bigger market, more expertise and growth opportunities right across the island."
