🚨 Major Employment Law Changes Announced! 🚨 Labour has unveiled the Employment Rights Bill, marking the biggest shake-up in over a century. Key Takeaways for Employers: 🔑 Day-One Rights for Employees All employees will be entitled to core employment rights from their first day, including paid leave and statutory protections. A 9-month probationary period allows employers to assess fit, but basic rights like sick pay and leave kick in immediately. 💼 Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) from Day One Sick pay will be available as soon as an employee starts, removing any waiting period. This ensures financial support from day one for employees who need to take sick leave. 👨👧 Day-One Paternity & Parental Leave New dads and partners can take paternity leave from Day One, a major shift from the previous system. Parental leave will also be available for both parents, giving families more flexibility from the start of employment. 🕊️ Statutory Bereavement Leave Employees will now be entitled to paid bereavement leave if they lose a loved one, providing time to grieve without financial stress. 🤰 Enhanced Protection for Pregnant Women & New Mums Pregnant employees and new mothers will have stronger protections against unfair dismissal and redundancy during pregnancy and maternity leave. Employers must be aware of these enhanced rights. ⏰ Right to Request Flexible Working from Day One Employees will be able to request flexible working arrangements from the start, including options like remote working, flexible hours, or part-time work—helping with work-life balance. 🚫 Ban on Exploitative Zero-Hours Contracts Employers will no longer be permitted to use zero-hours contracts that fail to provide guaranteed working hours, ensuring employees have more stable and predictable work arrangements. These changes are still subject to government consultation, so details may evolve. The new rights won’t take effect until 2026, giving employers time to prepare. Unfair dismissal reforms are expected no earlier than Autumn 2026. Start preparing now by staying informed on changes and timelines to ensure compliance. Need support navigating these updates? Reach out to Involve HR for support. #hr #humanresources #consultants #consultancy #employmentlawupdate #theemploymentrightsbill
