Helping young people achieve
About us
The Jon Egging Trust (JET) was set up in honour of Flt Lt Jon Egging, who tragically lost his life on the 20th August 2011 whilst completing an air display at the Bournemouth Air Festival; he was coming to the end of his first year with the world-famous Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows. Jon was passionate about inspiring young people through his love of flying and his enthusiasm for teamwork and leadership. The Jon Egging Trust was set up to realise his dream by Jon’s wife Dr Emma Egging, his mother Dawn Egging, childhood friend James Godley and former Red Arrow’s pilot Ben Plank. We have developed an exciting and unique youth engagement programme – Blue Skies – which provides new opportunities to help disadvantaged young people achieve their full potential. Following the huge success of our pilot Blue Skies project in Lincolnshire in 2012, JET now works in nine regions across the U.K.: Lincolnshire, East Anglia, Dorset, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, North Wales, Cornwall and the West Midlands. We have also developed a second youth engagement initiative: Inspirational Outreach. We deliver both schemes in conjunction with our partners from the worlds of aerospace and STEM. The Jon Egging Trust believes that all young people should have the opportunity to realise their potential and be the best they can be.

🌟CEO celebration 🌟 Two weeks on from our exceptional CEO Celebration Dinner – which marked the official handover between Emma Egging OBE PhD and Alex Brown - we’re pleased to share a selection of official images from the evening. It was a privilege to be hosted by RAF Cranwell within the iconic College Hall Officers’ Mess. It was a fitting venue for the occasion, given RAF Cranwell’s significance as the home of some of our very first Blue Skies sessions back in 2012. We were delighted to be joined by Patrons, Trustees, JET Youth Ambassadors and senior representatives from many of our corporate and military partner network. Thank you all for making the evening so meaningful and memorable. Thanks too to our inspiring speakers including Sir Stuart Atha, Professor Brian Cox, Jon Culshaw and Air Vice-Marshal Simon Edwards who stood in for JET Patron, Air Marshal Harv Smyth, on the evening. A key highlight of the evening was hearing from six of our JET Youth Ambassadors, some of whom were on our programmes in the very early days of JET. The ambassadors spoke movingly about the legacy that Emma has created, and described the impact that Blue Skies has had (and continues to have) on their journey to becoming the bright young professionals they are today. Our grateful thanks to everyone who supported the evening and helped us mark the beginning of JET’s exciting next chapter. #JonEggingTrust #CEOCelebrationDinner #RAFCranwell #RAF #teamwork #leadership #employability #legacy #JET #BlueSkies #youthcharity

Money matters 💸 The third and final year of JET’s Blue Skies programme takes students on an employability journey, where they explore future goals and aspiration in more detail, and learn some of the key skills they will need in their onward journey - from CV writing to interview techniques. One Blue Skies 3 cohort from Lincolnshire were lucky to take part in an engaging financial planning session last week, supported by professional volunteers from our partners at Affinity Flying Training Services Limited From navigating the ins-and-outs of financial prioritisation through to budgeting and sifting through necessities vs luxuries, to exploring the world of income vs taxes, the students began to learn what financial stability might ‘look like’ through a range of hands-on challenges and tasks. The students also learned about the positives and negatives of debit cards, credit cards, overdrafts, and loans. By the end of the session, students reported feeling more confident in facing the daunting world of money management; a key skill with lifelong relevance. #JonEggingTrust #BlueSkies #youthcharity #STEMeducation #STEM #finances #finacesavvy #smartsaving #learning #realworldskills #communication #teamwork #leadership

🎉Celebrating our amazing volunteers 🎉 Today, we’re shining a spotlight on the incredible volunteers who help make JET’s work possible. From the hundreds of amazing corporate and military role models who bring our Blue Skies workplace visits to life for our students, to those who dig deep to support our events and fundraising endeavours; this one’s for you! One example of volunteering at its finest is the support we received in September at JETRide where a small army of dedicated individuals gave their time and expertise to ensure the day ran on rails. Students from East Midlands Universities Air Squadron and local RAF Cadets, as well as local volunteers and JET supporters, helped with everything from setting up and tackling the (dreaded) take-down of equipment, to manning route checkpoints and feed stations, managing car parks and traffic, supporting riders and sign ups, taking event photography, serving refreshments and handing out celebratory non-alcoholic beer and cakes at the finish line. Your dedication means everything to us! 💬 Hear from our volunteers themselves about what inspires them to support JET! Ahead of our CEO Celebration Dinner at RAF Cranwell last night to mark the passing of the baton between Emma Egging OBE PhD and Alex Brown, Emma and Alex co-chaired a ‘Bridging the gap’ roundtable with space sector partners. Aimed at supporting entry into the sector for young people from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds, delegates included JET Youth Ambassadors Max and Izzy, UK Reserve Astronaut Meganne Christian FRAeS, Barbara Ghinelli, Director of Innovation Clusters and Harwell Campus, and Ingmar Kamalagharan, Head of Education and Future Workforce at the UK Space Agency. The roundtable discussed a number of key topics including the essential competencies needed for young people to thrive in the space sector, and how Jon Egging Trust could better support our young people to develop these skills. We look forward to publishing more on the outcomes of this important discussion in the coming weeks. #careers #aspiration #inspiration #SpacetoLearn #bridgingthegap #space #STEM

In her final day as CEO, we take the opportunity to celebrate the ‘JET engine’ that is Emma Egging OBE PhD, our inspirational leader and founder whose vision and determination has turned personal tragedy into a story of hope, through the creation of one of the highest potential youth charities in the UK in the field of social and emotional learning. We look forward to welcoming you, Em, to our Board of Trustees in the coming months, but for now we’re all going to miss you terribly in the day-to-day hum of JET. We’re incredibly proud of everything you’ve achieved over the last thirteen years and we’ve loved working alongside you – through good times and bad - to help you build your extraordinary legacy which has now touched the lives of over 45,000 young people. We hope you’ll all join us in raising a virtual glass to Emma, and that you’ll continue to support Emma and JET and the young people we serve, now and in the years to come.
