Last week some of our Wales team joined our Ridge and Partners LLP colleagues at the launch event for the Good Practice Guidance around enhancing dark skies in the country. Ridge's Lighting Design Partner, Andrew Bissell FSLL MILP MCIBSE, talked at the event on designing dark skies in line with RIBA stages. Wales is leading the way in tackling light pollution which impacts many animals' natural rhythms causing impacts to be felt in the ecosystems. You can find out more about the problem and Andrew and Ridge's work in helping deliver dark skies in Wales here - https://lnkd.in/eH9EriDW

Wales has taken a major step in protecting its night skies with the launch of Good Practice Guidance: Planning for the Conservation and Enhancement of Dark Skies in Wales. With three International Dark Sky Places already within its borders, the country is leading the way in tackling light pollution 🌒 Artificial light disrupts sleep patterns by interfering with melatonin production, while many nocturnal animals rely on darkness for hunting, navigation, and reproduction. Disrupting these natural rhythms can have cascading effects on ecosystems and overall environmental health. Reducing unnecessary artificial lighting is key to preserving both human well-being and natural ecosystems. At Ridge, we’ve been working with all eight designated landscapes in Wales to improve the night sky and create case studies to educate people on reducing light pollution 💡 We identified 200+ buildings contributing to light pollution with 42 redesigns developed and have already completed the retrofit of 20. From schools and visitor centres to farms and even a castle 🏰, our work is helping Wales keep its skies dark while maintaining safe, functional spaces. Thanks to Welsh Government funding, building owners and homeowners were able to make these improvements at no cost.   The guidance was launched yesterday in Cardiff where Andrew Bissell FSLL MILP MCIBSE, Ridge Lighting Design Partner, was invited to speak on designing for dark skies in line with RIBA design stages. 𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄? 𝗪𝗲'𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆'𝘀 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘂𝗺𝘀 We've helped deliver homes for people in unique projects such as garden villages, high rise buildings or repurposing buildings. But probably the most unique homes we've helped deliver have been lived in by fish, rays, seahorses, penguins, turtles and even 3m long sharks! Our team have worked to deliver the UK's largest aquarium, National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth, and the iconic The Deep in Hull. These unique projects pose different challenges which our experienced team worked to overcome, ensuring the buildings are not just fit for animals but also for visitors too!

Great video from Andrew Scott Ltd showing the progress at Gnoll Estate Country Park! We're working with Andrew Scott, providing engineering design services for the restoration project which includes refurbishments to Pond House, restoration of the kitchen gardens, and the new visitor centre. The new visitor centre is two-storeys, fully accessible and contains a modern cafe, dedicated children's soft play pace, and event/conferencing facilities. All whilst being sustainable and providing a balcony with views across the lake.

Our industry, like many others, is guilty of greenwashing But what exactly is greenwashing and how do we move beyond this to achieve true sustainability in construction? We sat down with our Plymouth Director and Chartered Structural Engineer, Ross Pomery, to get the best tips on how our structural engineers can help deliver the sustainability goals of construction projects.

Last week, our Bristol, Cardiff and Plymouth teams met with our new Ridge and Partners LLP colleagues in their Oxford office! Since joining forces with Ridge, our teams have been busy integrating, and last week our teams met face to face at Ridge's office in the grounds of Blenheim Palace. It was a particularly early start for the Plymouth office setting off at 6:45am but a quiz on the coach on the way up soon woke everyone up! It was a great event to learn more about Ridge and get to know our new colleagues, with our Winchester team visiting later this week #Ridge #Jubb

We're helping to deliver the UK's third Dutch-Style Roundabout! Featured by BBC News, we are project managing these Section 278 works at Westgate Roundabout in Chichester. The roundabout will open later this month. Andrea O'Shea, project manager for the works, told the BBC: "The roundabout gives priority to non-motorised users, it will have a dedicated lane for cyclists who will have priority over cars. The concept comes from the Netherlands and has been brought across to try and improve cycle facilities in the UK. The completed scheme should actually not have a significant impact on traffic." You can read the full BBC article here - https://lnkd.in/eCrVXRWv And you can watch a flythrough of the roundabout on our YouTube channel - https://lnkd.in/ebyvHM5Y

𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐞! Our Winchester team has led the civil and structural design, including external works, drainage, and Section 278 works, in close collaboration with CBRE and Fairhursts Architects. The design blends steel framing in the main security hub - allowing for large openings, with masonry for the office space, striking the perfect balance between function and form. It’s been exciting to see this project come together, and it’s great to see all the hard work paying off. Looking forward to the final result and proud to be part of it! #Engineering #Construction #JubbWinchester"

𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝘄𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼-𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸 Check out the video below from Encon Construction Ltd on the completion of Porthcawl Metro-Link. The new bus terminus consists of a green roof on the station building, 4 bays, space for a kiosk, rain garden and much more. Jubb’s efforts led to an early stage package that involved assessing structural options and ensuring that the project achieved SAB approval. The team also played a key role in supporting the planning process for this project. #JubbCardiff #Porthcawl #Sustainability Michael Stuttaford

📽️ Showcasing the completed Porthcawl Metro-Link. The project was constructed in partnership with our client Bridgend County Borough Council and the project team Inspire Architects, Austin Partnership, Services Design Solution (SDS), Coreus Group, Austin-Smith:Lord and Jubb. Construction works consisted of a new bus terminus with 4 bays, a covered station building, space for a kiosk and various environmental enhancements including a green roof, rain garden, outdoor seating areas and associated highway works. 🚍 Based at the heart of Porthcawl’s regeneration area alongside the Portway and Salt Lake, the Metrolink forms part of the wider Metro Plus programme, which seeks to improve public transport links across south-east Wales. Funding for the scheme was made possible using money from the Metro Link fund which has been provided as part of the Cardiff Capital Region city deal and the council’s own Porthcawl Regeneration budget.
