5 Life Lessons I've learnt from my dad; 1. 'Work Hard, Play Hard'  My dad's work ethic is like no other, and I expect he got it from his parents who worked 4 jobs between them, most of their working lives, whilst raising 4 children. He has worked since his early teens, and was first to graduate from university in our family. He always tells me and my sister to work hard so we can enjoy the fruits of our labour. Work smart, do something meaningful and have fun. 2. 'When the going gets tough, the tough get going' Whenever I've had a bad day at work (or good day for that matter), my dad is one of the first people I call. He never judges, brings a sense of calm and has unwavering belief in me. This has boosted me in my darkest moments, and helped me to believe in myself. He's always made me feel like my wins are monumental and my lows are a key part of my story. 'Todays news is tomorrow's fish and chip paper, so get back on your feet and show 'em how it’s done!' 3. 'Blood is thicker than water' My dad is a family man through and through. To the outside world, he's as tough as nails but when it comes to his family, he's a teddy bear. He is always present for family whenever, wherever and however they need. Fully present. Undivided attention. 4. 'Be a saver and an investor' My parents told me to get a Saturday job when I turned 16 and at the time I didn't understand why they were so focussed on it. Now I'm grateful. It taught me the value of a pound and the pride in working to be self sufficient, and I've been addicted ever since. 5. 'Be your best, don't worry about the other guy(or gal)' Focus on yourself, your abilities and being your best, the rest is just noise. In a competitive industry, with corporates that appear to have never-ending marketing spend, it can be overwhelming. It's good to know what’s happening around you, but don't be consumed by it, drown out the noise and YOU do YOU.
