Last year, iconic Swedish brand Orrefors Kosta Boda AB launched Ensemble, a collection of glassware by LAYER that beautifully merges historic glassworking techniques with contemporary design. This award-winning collection, recognised with a Red Dot Design Award, features six individual pieces—three plinths and three dishes—allowing for nine unique configurations. Each elegant plinth pays homage to classical architecture with its vertical fluting, and supports the expressive dishes that are skillfully blown and cold-worked. The Breeze and Urban coffee machines, designed by LAYER, each redefine the coffee experience. Earlier this week, we announced that the Calma lounge by LAYER for Andreu World was shortlisted for the FX Design Awards. Today, we’re excited to announce that the Calma lounge has also been shortlisted for an Interior Design Magazine Best of Year Award in the Contract Furniture category. The lounge is an expansion of the popular collection of Calma task chairs designed by the studio for Andreu World in 2022. The soft, pillowed design language further explores the signature calming forms of the original collection to create an instantly identifiable yet original expression. The new Calma lounge by LAYER for Andreu World has recently been shortlisted for the prestigious FX Design Awards! The elegant, reclining lounge launched earlier this year at Salone del Mobile.Milano and London Design Festival. The LightVision headset designed by LAYER for Resonate – which launched at Art Basel Miami – uses the cutting-edge science of neural entrainment to make traditional meditation techniques easier, accessible, and more effective. The headset features an LED light matrix that translates videos of the natural world – such as fish swimming underwater, or trees moving in the breeze – into an ever-changing sequence of biomorphic patterns that are visible through closed eyes and proven to activate the brain’s frequency-following response. LAYER designed two modular sofa systems for Croatian furniture brand prostoria ltd – Sabot and Rostrum. The two collections strike a balance between domestic design language cues and hyper-modular functional seating to cater for both residential and office environments. Sabot is a playful arrangement of abstract volumes supported by characterful timber feet that are a celebration of Prostoria’s woodworking capability; while Rostrum features a linear language emphasised by the ribbed detail of the dividing screens. Beosound Emerge, designed by LAYER for Bang & Olufsen, is a super slim, sculptural speaker with a small footprint that belies its impressive acoustic output. As with many of the technological products we design at LAYER, Beosound Emerge is designed to subvert expectations. We turned to the world of home interiors for inspiration and developed a palette that celebrates tactile, natural materials such as timber and textile.
