Leeway Domestic Violence and Abuse Services

It has been a busy week as we have attended events across Norfolk and Suffolk to mark #WhiteRibbon Day, raising awareness of the important work that we do! White Ribbon Day and the 16-day action period is a great opportunity to start conversations around domestic abuse and the collective responsibility we have to tackle it. We have enjoyed working with partners across both counties and will continue to do so to deliver the best possible support for service users.

*This time last week* 👏 A huge thank you to everyone that attended the Domestic Abuse & Violence Against Women & Girls Conference (VAWG) held by Leeway and The Magdalene Group! This is an exciting year for both charities as we are celebrating major milestones. Leeway is celebrating it's 50th anniversary, while The Magdalene Group has turned 30! We are both immensely proud of our important work over the past few decades we were delighted to come together for this special event. We celebrated a range of important work that is being been done to tackle domestic abuse and VAWG and we had an amazing line-up of guest speakers! They have dedicated so much time to tackling these important issues and we are extremely grateful that they supported our event! Thank you... Rachel Millar - Domestic Abuse Commissioner’s Office. Dr. Olumide Adisa, PhD. A Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Social Justice and Crime, University of Suffolk, and Co-Investigator at VISION, City University, London. Janey Starling - We Level Up. A domestic abuse expert and author of Dignity for Dead Women: Media guidelines for reporting domestic violence deaths, the UK's first media guidelines for reporting on fatal domestic abuse. Jonna Barry - Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) as an assistant forensic psychologist working across low and medium secure services with complex mental health needs, personality difficulties and behaviours that challenge. Nick Gazzard - Founder of the Hollie Gazzard Trust and the Hollie Guard App. The Hollie Gazzard Trust was created following the murder of 20-year-old Hollie Gazzard in 2014 by an ex-partner. The charity helps reduce domestic violence through education and awareness campaigns. Also with the launch of the Hollie Guard App which now has over 500,000 users. Jess Macmichael - Cats Protection & Dogs Trust. It often starts gradually, becoming normalised over time. Abusers may hide their behaviour and isolate their victims from friends and family, making it even harder to recognise.
