Living Wage Scotland
Civic and Social Organizations
We award the Living Wage employer mark to Scottish employers - a symbol of responsible business practice.
About us
The real Living Wage is an hourly rate of pay, set independently, and updated annually. It is calculated according to the basic cost of living in the UK and employers choose to pay it on a voluntary basis. The real Living Wage is currently £12.60 across the UK and £13.85 in London. Living Wage accreditation celebrates employers that choose to go further than the government minimum, by paying the real Living Wage to all relevant workers. Accreditation is the process where an employer applies for the licence rights to display the Living Wage employer mark, a recognised symbol of responsible business practice. Living Wage Scotland was established in April 2014 by the Poverty Alliance with the aim of increasing the number of employers in Scotland who are recognised for paying their staff the real Living Wage. We work in partnership with the Living Wage Foundation and are funded by the Scottish Government. Paying the real Living Wage has benefits for business, workers and society and employers are proud to be part of a growing civil society movement that ensures their employees earn enough to support a decent standard of living. There are now over 14,000 accredited Living Wage employers across the UK with over 3,600 of those based in Scotland

Many of us will enjoy an outing with friends, family and colleagues this December. While we enjoy ourselves, let’s recognise that the hospitality and tourism sector faces increased pressure following what has already been a challenging time. Anna Hirvonen has seen the barriers faced by businesses in the sector and the drive to make changes within hospitality and tourism. You can read a new blog (link in comments) from Anna about the challenges and how fair work practices can create a more resilient sector. Let’s create a sustainable future for hospitality and tourism in Scotland, and make this festive season a time of joy for businesses, their dedicated workers and customers.
