🎉 It's incredible to have the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association on board as a partner for the highly significant #LongitudePrizeonALS. This new prize will focus on AI-powered drug discovery for #ALS. And, with more than 1500 people in attendance, it was fantastic for our proud partnership to be announced at the annual MND Association's International Symposium on ALS/MND in Canada last week. Non-profit Organizations
The Longitude Prize series from innovation experts @Challenge_Works will launch the Longitude Prize on ALS in 2025.
About us
The new multi-million-pound Longitude Prize on ALS will be funded by the Motor Neurone Disease Association and others including Alan Davidson Foundation, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and LifeArc. It will incentivise the use of AI and machine-learning approaches to transform drug discovery for the treatment of ALS, a form of motor neurone disease (MND), opening the door for new treatments across other neurodegenerative diseases. The total value of the prize pot and full details of how to enter will be announced at launch in Spring 2025.

Great news coming from our friends at LifeArc this week!
As the UN General Assembly convenes to talk about antimicrobial resistance (AMR) this week, we have several exciting AMR developments to share with you! We've joined the Fleming Initiative as a founding partner alongside Cepheid and Optum to tackle the global threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The Fleming Initiative is a collaborative, bold new approach focused on addressing the unmet and emerging needs in AMR that no single organisation or isolated research efforts can solve alone. By working together, we aim to address the drivers of AMR, develop global networks of expertise, and outline key research themes to accelerate vital solutions. We will contribute £25 million and will also harness our expertise in drug discovery, intellectual property management and technology transfer to help fight this critical global health problem. What better place to celebrate awarding the #LongitudePrize to Sysmex Astrego AB than at the iconic Science Museum! It was a fantastic honour to host this evening's winners event here, and gave attendees the opportunity to hear more about the winning device and even a chance to see it for themselves and speak to the team. Thank you to everyone who came to tonight's event to celebrate such a game-changing development in the fight against superbugs and the preservation of antibiotics. We are proud to announce that the £8m #LongitudePrize on AMR has been won by the PA-100 AST System - a test that drastically reduces the time needed to identify the presence and cause of a bacterial urine infection and identifies the exact antibiotic needed to treat it. Congratulations to Sysmex Astrego AB – the technology is truly a gamechanger in the fight against superbugs and the preservation of antibiotics. Catch the announcement, which was live on this evening's BBC One’s The One Show, via iPlayer. https://lnkd.in/e8Fdmpi3 #LPAMR #TheOneShow #SysmexAstrego #AMR #StopSuperbugs

Longitude Prize on ALS reposted this
This week, a decade since its launch, we'll be announcing the winner of the #LongitudePrize on AMR. The Prize launched in 2014 to incentivise the creation of rapid point-of-care diagnostic tests that, in a matter of minutes, can identify whether an infection is bacterial and, if it is, help doctors to prescribe the right antibiotic. This will revolutionise diagnosis of bacterial infections, which currently can take two-three days to process in a lab, and often result in the incorrect prescription of antibiotics, driving the rise of #antibioticresistance. We are thrilled to have a winner whose device will dramatically improve the lives of many and help in the fight against #AMR. Stay tuned to find out who they are and, in the meantime, watch this for some reflections from Tris Dyson, Managing Director at Challenge Works. Daniel Berman

10 years after we launched the #LongitudePrize on AMR, we are ready to announce the winner. Tomorrow, we'll be revealing which team has won the £8 million prize, which will allow health professionals worldwide to administer the right antibiotics at the right time, helping in the fight against #AMR. Here, Challenge Works managing director Tris Dyson explains a little about why the Longitude Prize on AMR is so vital. https://lnkd.in/ex_4Ra89 #LongitudePrize #AMR #competition #globalhealth #StopSuperbugs
