    🌍 COP in Retrospective: The Scandal / Spectacle Paradox 🌍 In this edition of Madano Shapes, we cover a curious paradox from the recent COP conference in Baku. Despite fossil fuel energy's significant influence and lobbying at the conference itself—what amounts to a scandal—being reported in 40% of articles, it drew surprisingly little reader interest. On the other hand, the sheer spectacle of poorer nations staging a walkout over inadequate climate finance targets captured much higher engagement. Beyond the drama of the moment, it was indicative of the deep tensions that exist in building consensus towards achieving net zero targets. 🔍 What Does This Tell Us? The lack of interest in fossil fuel lobbying highlights how entrenched these issues are perceived to be, almost as if they're an accepted part of the landscape rather than an outrage demanding action. The walkout resonated because it was not just news—it was a powerful, visual narrative highlighting inequity and urgency that people could connect with on an emotional level - a lesson to be learnt. Our cutting-edge, AI-driven research has played a pivotal role in fostering discussions about the future of the UK print industry and has helped secure substantial funding for the IPIA. It’s a compelling example of how data-led insights can challenge outdated perceptions and spotlight the unique value of print as a communication medium.
