This year at McBains, we decided to rethink our festive traditions. Instead of Secret Santa and contributing to the pile of single-use plastics, we chose to focus on giving back. 💝 We teamed up with KidsOut & The Giving Tree, an incredible initiative that ensures children and young people in need receive gifts they may not otherwise have during the festive season. The charity collects wish lists from children and matches them with donors who want to make a difference. Our amazing team rallied together, and thanks to their generosity, we donated 35 presents 🎁 – each one carefully chosen to bring a little joy to someone who truly deserves it. We’re so proud of how our colleagues embraced the spirit of giving. A huge thank you to everyone who got involved and helped make this happen. #christmas #giving #charity

Wishing all of our followers a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous 2025! We invited our staff and their family members to participate in our annual Christmas Card Design Competition, and we were thrilled by the fantastic response once again! The competition included two age categories: Under 16s and 16 and Over, with the winners chosen through a staff vote. Huge congratulations to Ella, aged 8, daughter of Technical CDM/Health & Safety Consultant Karen Tai, for winning the Under 16s category, and to Georgie Docwra for taking the top spot in the 16 and Over category. We believe all participants are winners and extend our thanks to everyone who submitted their wonderful designs. Building Health into Housing: A Mission for Change This evening, I attended a vital session of the Healthy Homes and Buildings APPG (HHB APPG) at the House of Commons, focused on embedding health into housing design, retrofitting, and regulation. Key takeaways included: ▪️Healthy Standards: Regulations must address issues like mould, poor insulation, and ventilation to ensure homes are safe, healthy, and livable. ▪️Whole-Building Approach: Holistic assessments of design, energy efficiency, and structural integrity are essential for both new builds and retrofits to meet long-term health and sustainability goals. ▪️Energy Efficiency: Housing improvements must align with Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) targets, reducing energy costs and emissions but also considering creating healthier, more comfortable homes. ▪️Skills and Training: To deliver quality retrofits and new builds, we need investment in workforce skills, ensuring high standards in design, construction, and installation practices and regulations for liability. ▪️Community-Centred Design: Housing should foster pride and connection, with safe, accessible spaces that promote well-being and resilience. Space and decent home standards. ▪️Simplifying Regulations: Unified, clear standards are needed to make retrofitting and construction processes more efficient while maintaining quality and safety. This discussion reinforced the vital role of retrofit housing combined with improving health, supporting communities, and tackling environmental challenges. Amfilochia Hydro Pumped Storage Project Reaches Financial Close McBains is proud to be involved in the transformative "Amfilochia Hydro Pumped Storage" project - Greece’s largest energy storage investment – acting as Lenders Technical Advisors to all stages of the project.   The €620 million scheme by GEK TERNA Group of Companies | TERNA ENERGY recently reached financial close and is set to enable enhanced energy storage and increased renewable energy (RES) penetration in the energy mix in Greece and southeastern Europe, with forecast annual energy production of approximately 816 GWh.   With a total installed capacity of 680 MW (production) and 730 MW (pumping), the scheme includes two independent upper reservoirs in Agios Georgios and Pyrgos, with lake Kastraki as its lower reservoir.   Congratulations to our dedicated experts, led by Anthony Coumidis and George Papadopoulos, along with the exceptional team of Lenders Technical Advisors at our Athens office. #energy #lenderstechnicaladvisor #greece

Work has begun on transforming Worcester Street as part of the Worcester Street Connectivity Project, Kidderminster. McPhillips (Wellington) Limited is leading the construction, with McBains providing civil engineering expertise.
