McLarens CAT Alert: Vanuatu Hit by A Deadly 7.3 Earthquake The island nation of Vanuatu experienced a massive and deadly magnitude 7.3 earthquake this Tuesday night. The earthquake was devastating with multiple fatalities being reported by local agencies. Many buildings suffered significant damage including government facilities and foreign embassies of the UK, US, France and New Zealand. There was a follow up aftershock of 5.5 magnitude, but the National Emergency Management Agency and GNS Science confirmed that there is no potential tsunami threat to the surrounding areas, including New Zealand. The situation on the ground remains difficult as access. The airport remains closed. Our hearts are with those who have suffered the impact of this devastating earthquake and with those who have perished. McLarens CAT response and earthquake expert teams, located in Australia, Fiji and New Zealand, are on alert and ready to assist with assignments. We are coordinating internally and ready to deploy to the impacted areas once flights and access open up. Activities included collecting money at Tube stations, running 10k, cake baking and assisting at a care home.
