About us

Media Trust works in partnership with the media and creative industry to give charities, young people and underrepresented communities a stronger voice. We do this through our skills-based volunteering, communications training and capacity building programmes and connecting leading media and creative professionals with charities and underrepresented communities across the UK. By bridging the gap between the media industry and broader society we aim to contribute to a more responsible, represented and connected media sector and ultimately a more socially cohesive Britain.

We're really excited to share the news that Media Trust is being funded by Centre for Public Impact, with support from the Google AI Opportunity Fund: Europe. This new initiative will empower minoritised and under-represented groups, close the AI skills gap and ensure everyone can benefit from AI's potential: https://lnkd.in/eCU-zPHU We couldn't agree more with Matt Brittin, President of Google EMEA that, “AI can help people across industries get more done, build deeper knowledge, and focus on the things that matter most to them, but it’s crucial that no one is left behind.”   Launching in January, Media Trust’s new AI training programme will provide free bespoke AI training developed by Google and external partners to two of Media Trust’s key beneficiary groups: small to medium-sized charities and creative talent from under-represented backgrounds. For more information, see our press release: https://lnkd.in/eG3seuFS   At Media Trust, we're very excited about this opportunity to continue our work to skill-up charities, advance representation and to avert an AI divide that has the potential to exacerbate existing inequalities.   🚨 Media Trust is also looking to recruit a Project Manager to manage this pioneering new AI training programme. The deadline is Nov 26. Click below for more information and how to apply: https://lnkd.in/e3uymrM6

Last night, we were at Warner House for the Criminal Justice Alliance and #MediaTrustFilms Charity Film Screening! 🎬   For this project, Media Trust assembled a talented team of directors from our network, including a BAFTA nominee, alumni of the National Film & Television School, and individuals with lived experience of the criminal justice system. Together, we crafted films that explore diverse themes. These powerful stories not only highlight systemic issues but also serve as a compelling call to action for transformative change.   The event started with a warm welcome from Media Trust CEO Su-Mei Thompson and CJA Director Annette So, who spoke about why events and partnerships like this are so important.   Guests were treated to ten powerful short films, each shedding light on some of the most pressing issues within the UK’s criminal justice system. The topics of films ranged from supporting individuals in prison and life after release to policy reform and victim support.   After the screenings, we hosted a thought-provoking panel chaired by Dr Thomas McNeil. The panel featured Jemma En Rose, Nick Alexander, William Gilluley, and Danny Shaw, who shared their personal insights into the stories behind the films and emphasised the urgent need for systemic reform.   We'd like to give a huge thank you to our partners, Criminal Justice Alliance, for allowing us to tell these vital stories with you. A special thanks as well to the Crucible Foundation for their generous support and to Warner Bros. Discovery for hosting the event.   A huge round of applause goes to the talented directors, cast, crew, and the incredible charities behind the films: Centre for Applied Autism Research (University of Bath), Give a Book, Institute for Crime & Justice Policy Research (ICPR), RIFT Social Enterprise, SAFE!, Transform Drug Policy Foundation, Transform Justice, upCYCLE and Why me? UK. Thank you for trusting us to help tell your stories.
