This week Metroline hosted a delegation from Singapore, which included the Minister of Transport, who was accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Transport as well as the Land Transport Authority, SBS Transit Ltd and operators from the Singapore bus industry. The delegation was given a tour of Edgware garage and its charging stations for electrified buses by Metroline CEO Sean O'Shea, and learned about the our Zero Emission Transformation progress and transport safety initiatives. “I’m going to drive one of those red buses one day!” Euphema had proudly declared long before joining Metroline Ltd. Now, more than 16 years later, she's still living that dream, driving with the same enthusiasm she had on day one. For Euphema, every day behind the wheel brings something new. The unpredictability of the road keeps things exciting, and despite the challenges, she has never once considered giving it up. One of the highlights of her career came in 2012, when she was selected as one of Metroline's drivers and pre-service instructors for the London Olympics. As the only female driver chosen, being part of such a globally celebrated event remains one of her most cherished memories. Euphema’s passion for her job and her commitment to making bus travel more accessible have not gone unnoticed. She was recognised as the Accessibility Champion at the 2013 London Bus Awards. Her proactive efforts in understand and address the challenges faced by elderly and disabled passengers have ensured that buses remain a reliable and inclusive mode of transport. Reflecting on her recognition, she shares, “I never expected to win the award. I just did what I felt was the right thing to do, but I’m truly grateful that my efforts were acknowledged.” Throughout her journey, Euphema has been shaped by the invaluable mentorship, the camaraderie of colleagues who have become like family, and the unwavering support of her loved ones. These relationships have made her role not just a job, but a source of joy and fulfilment. When passengers ask how she so effortlessly manoeuvres such a large bus, she responds with a smile, “Once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature — you simply go with the flow. If you're curious, why not give this career a try? You’ll never know until you do, and trust me, you won’t regret it.”
