Very pleased to say that for the first time, Nationwide Building Society has been included in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook, which showcases global industry leaders in ESG. This is great recognition of our continuous efforts across sustainability and reflects our strong score in the S&P Corporate Sustainability Assessment. Nationwide has made several significant steps over the past twelve months, including publishing our research on how low-cost finance supports the greening of UK homes and disclosing our inaugural operational Principle Adverse Impact indicators.

Another flurry of awards for our teams across Nationwide Building Society on Wednesday night at the Moneyfacts awards in London. We were finalists in 11 different categories across our products and services, coming away with 3 wins, plus 2 highly commended and 3 commended awards. Notably for us across mortgages and insurance, we took first place for High Street Mortgage Provider of the Year and highly commended in the First-Time Mortgage Buyers’ Choice category. We were also finalists in the Home Insurance Provider of the Year category. Another great set of results for Nationwide in what has been a very strong year to date.

  • While our competitors continue to close their branches, we know our members value face-to-face banking. We’re the last banking branch in town on 100 high streets across the UK, and we have the UK's biggest branch network, with more branches than any other banking brand. Mandy Beech MBA, Director of Retail Services, said: "It can be a blow to people and communities when shops and branches leave the high street. It's not just the service and the jobs they provide but the friendly face, reassurance and so much more. We have a commitment to branches and that is why we have the UK's biggest branch network.” Find out more: http://spr.ly/6049xlKeJ - Branch opening hours may vary. • Last week we held a parliamentary reception in Edinburgh, where Members of the Scottish Parliament were able to explore our history in Scotland, and to hear about our continued commitment to local branches. Chris Bose, our Head of Public Affairs, said: "Great to host our first branch celebration event in the Scottish Parliament, recognising the incredible dedication and achievements of our branch network and colleagues. It was inspiring to see how our collective efforts continue to make a meaningful impact."

  • This morning, our CEO Debbie C., met with the Prime Minister, Chancellor and business leaders to discuss the Government’s growth agenda. Debbie Crosbie, said: “The Government’s focus on economic growth is vital to improve living standards, support public services, and increase UK competitiveness. The drive to remove the regulatory barriers that limit growth are very welcome, particularly when they increase access to the housing market. Today’s meeting was another good example of the positive engagement between government and industry." "Nationwide is the UK’s only mutual full-service banking provider and we share the Government’s ambition to make meaningful and lasting economic progress.”

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting with our Housing Minister, Baroness Sharon Taylor, at the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government offices in London. We discussed a wide range of topics around home ownership challenges, including: - The importance of mortgage lending in support of the Government's target to build 1.5 million new homes over the next 5 years - The impact that the end of the Help-to-Buy scheme has had on the housing market, with new build transactions in the 12 months to Oct-2024 down a third relative to the same period in 2022 and from that the importance of solving both the deposit and affordability challenges facing first time buyers - Nationwide Building Society's enhanced support for first time buyers including our recent expansion to up to 6x income and up to 95% LTV through our Helping Hand proposition. We are looking forward to building on this relationship and supporting the Government's ambition to tackle housing issues over the course of 2025 and beyond.
