The Climate and Nature (CAN) Bill is a bold proposal in Westminster to tackle the climate and nature crises. It aims to set legally binding targets to cut emissions and restore nature by 2030 👏 On 24 January, the CAN Bill will reach a critical milestone with its 2nd reading in Parliament. To succeed, we need enough MPs present and ready to back it. This is our chance to make a difference! As MP Roz Savage MBE says, “Farming isn’t just part of the solution; it is the solution.” The CAN Bill puts farming and the environment at the heart of the UK’s climate strategy, ensuring both food and nature security 🔐 Learn why Roz is championing the CAN Bill ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/gz_2b-CH But don’t stop there! Write to your MP today and urge them to support this vital legislation. Let’s turn talk into action! 💚💌

Ruth Ashton-Shaw, owner of a small organic livestock farm in South West Scotland, reflects on the valuable lessons she’s learned throughout her regenerative farming journey 🌾 Looking back, she realises how valuable it would have been to understand the environmental effects of conventional farming sooner. “The two biggest lessons for us were lowering stock levels and getting the grazing right,” Ruth explains. “This eliminated the need for feed and significantly reduced the worm burden on our land, which really helped to springboard biodiversity gain.” 🐝 She also learned the importance of planting trees to work with the land, not against it. “Planting trees and integrating them into our farming system made us think of the farm as part of a much larger, connected landscape,” she shares.🌳 Her journey is a powerful reminder that regenerative farming is about thoughtful, interconnected practices that work with nature.💚 #RegenerativeFarming #NFFN

We're glad to see that many of the points we've been raising are echoed in the newly-published House of Lords’ Committee report on methane. 📜 The report highlights the need for government action to help farmers reduce methane emissions, with a focus on increasing financial support, subsidies, and making methane-reducing technologies more accessible to farms of all sizes.🐄 It also stresses that reducing livestock emissions should go hand in hand with protecting broader environmental health. It’s great to see our concerns reflected in this important report, and we’ll continue to push for policies that support sustainable farming. 🌱 Learn more about the report here: https://ow.ly/sVxE50UryP4 #NFFN #RegenerativeFarming 📸Joanne Coates
