-          “What a brilliant workshop!” https://lnkd.in/eEv7S4_K I’m delighted to rekindle New Theatre Royal’s connection with #PortsmouthWritersHub. Autumn workshop series begins today with #Writing for #Procrastinators.   NTR’s welcoming café space hosted dozens of writing evenings and talks, where I met many of the fabulous local writers I’m now friends with. Together, we’ve formed a formidable unit, presenting hundreds of performances across the city. At the NTR, I’ve participated in Writing Edward King; and from my 2016 Murder at the Theatre workshops with crime writer Diana Bretherick, three writers are now published – well done!   We’ve all heard of Dickens, Doyle, Kipling and Gaiman. Let’s hope 2025’s City of Literature brings today’s Portsmouth writers to fame (Christine Lawrence, Quentin Bates, Fiona Ballard, Tade Thompson etc).   Between us, we’ve published collections, hosted writing retreats and critique groups, and helped the city’s authors find their audience. Fom those small beginnings in the NTR bar, the Writers Hub has swelled to over a thousand, with hundreds published (see Portsmouth Authors Collective and Portsmouth Literary Map), alongside exciting projects performing (at Victorious, DarkFest, Journeys International etc), offering workshops (watch out for 2025 Bookfest), activism (Pens of the Earth), and a bonanza of Spoken Word opportunities (Tongues n Grooves, Front Room, Open Ya Mouth, T’Articulation, Pompey Poetry Party and 432 Nomads).   I’m offering workshops on Writing for Procrastinators and Edit Your Work. For those struggling with common writing issues, it can be a huge boost to find they’re not alone. Events like these allow us to find likeminded creatives, exchange advice and form a community. Write Your Historical Novel will help those creating fictional pasts to navigate research pitfalls and pleasures. Our initial social meet-up on Friday 13 September aims to complement Writers Hub monthly meet-ups at Kings Theatre and reintroduce writers to the NTR.
