I still haven’t gotten over the magical experience I got yesterday. This week has been Tech week in Birmingham with yesterday being an event for Women in Tech. And as part of my resolve to grow my network in my transitioning journey into product management, I dragged myself to the event despite all odds. I went in and everywhere was filled already. I said since I was already there, let me stay some more and make something out of it. But the panel of speakers at the time weren’t audible and I couldn’t even grasp a thing of what was going on. After about thirty minutes of hanging around, I said to leave. Went outside but something asked me not to yet so I just sat around. While waiting, I saw a beautiful lady came by the registration stand, registered and went in. She was also a lady of color like myself and really looked like someone I knew. In other to clear my doubts, I walked back into the hall, saw her standing behind as well, walked up to her, we exchanged pleasantries and I discovered she wasn’t who I thought she was. I then told her I was about leaving so I came to make sure she wasn’t the person I was thinking. She asked me not to go yet, that I should wait some more. I obliged. Waited a little again and told her I really can’t take it anymore and I want to leave. And she said noooo… there’s a reason why you didn’t leave the very first time you felt the prompt to, there’s a reason why you met me, there’s a reason why you are here… Pleasse don’t go, I will be speaking after the current panel, wait and hear me out. And I went 😳😳😳 So I sat and waited. Not long after it was her turn to speak. Ladies and gentlemen, nothing prepared me for the fire Emma Mendez spat out yesterday! Yes, she was the one fate led me to yesterday and was the highlight of the event for me. She was my blessing and miracle yesterday. Her presentation caused a shift in my mindset and shed light on my journey. She spoke on women occupying space and participation in Leadership. In my opinion, I think every lady who is career conscious and seeking to climb up the ladder, get delivered from income poverty and be the ‘one’ in every room should have a session with Emma. Emma is gifted to help you see all that is possible and all you can achieve using her story and experience as an example. Thank you again Emma for that powerful presentation yesterday. Emma is a girls girls throughly and she also made sure I met everyone that mattered yesterday. And that was how I met Oyinkansola Adebayo of Niyo Group and CHINAZOR VIVIAN KALU (MIET) , chief program manager at Niyo. To everyone who’s doing their best and striving to best at what they do, this is me saying hang in there, everything will align soon enough for you. You’ll get that job, you’ll get that promotion, you’ll get that miracle. I’m rooting for you 🥂
