  • E-bike/e-scooter fires are on the rise nationally. If you have an e-bike/e-scooter or are thinking of getting one please follow our ChargeSafe safety tips. Our top tips are below, but you can read more on our website https://lnkd.in/gtG9ws9j. If you know someone with an e-bike/ e-scooter please share this advice with them. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for charging and using your product and use the manufacturer-approved battery and charger. Don’t charge e-bikes and e-scooters in bedrooms or where escape routes can be blocked for example, hallways. Don’t leave your battery charging unattended, when you are out or while you are asleep. Don’t cover chargers or battery packs when charging Always unplug your charger when you have finished charging If your battery can be removed from your e-bike or e-scooter and charged separately, it should be charged on a hard flat surface where heat can disperse and in area with good ventilation. Stop using or charging your battery immediately if you notice any of the following: Overheating: If your device’s battery feels extremely hot to the touch Deformation: If your battery looks swollen. Similar signs include any type of lump or leaking from the device. Noise: If your battery is making hissing or cracking sounds. Smell: If you notice a strong or unusual smell coming from the battery Performance: If your battery does not fully charge or is taking longer to charge than normal. Smoke: If your battery or device is smoking

  • Crew Manager, Ian Orledge, attended the National Service of Remembrance in London yesterday. Below is his account of the day. It was an absolute honour to represent North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service at the Cenotaph in London on Remembrance Sunday this year. It was made even more special for me as my father Robin, who has been an On-Call Firefighter for 41 years, was also representing Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service Remembrance has always played a big part in my life ever since I was a child. Dad served in the Royal Air Force Regiment from 1977 to 1983 then join the Isle of Wight Fire Brigade. As a family we would attend the remembrance parade, which Dad was part of with Cowes Fire Station. Then when I became an RAF Air Cadet, I also marched in the same parade every year. When I moved to Malton, from the Isle of Wight I always made an effort to attend Malton’s remembrance service at the memorial on Yorkersgate. Every year I buy my children a poppy and remind them of why we wear them. I’ve have now been a member of the North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service Ceremonial Team for 3 years and I feel very lucky and privileged to have been selected for this duty so early in my involvement with the team. Dad and I, were part of the Civilian Services Contingent, which consisted of 150 members from the Fire and rescue service, Police service, Ambulance service, HM Prison Service, HM Coast Guard, the Red Cross, and the Women’s Voluntary Service. It was a long day, starting at 5 am to make sure I was ready for breakfast at 6 am. By 06.30 we had to be in uniform and in the lobby of the hotel with our luggage to be searched by the prison service search dogs. We then took three coaches to King Charles Street, which is just the other side of Downing Street. We practised marching with the other Services, and small groups of us were taken away to have a photograph taken outside No.10. At around 09.30 we were inspected by the deputy Prime Minister, Angela Rayner, who stopped to speak to Dad about his military and public service. At 10.25 the Band of the Royal Marines strikes up and we march out on to WhiteHall to join the Royal Navy, Army, and Royal Air Force, on parade, ready to welcome the Royal Family and member of the U.K. Government, to start the service of remembrance. We were stood out on WhiteHall for about 2 and a half hours, whilst the various poppy wreaths were laid at the Cenotaph. Then over 10,000 people from the various military veterans groups march past the Cenotaph and lay their respective wreaths. At 1 o’clock, we marched off Whitehall, back on to King Charles Street to the Pipes and Drums of the Royal Air Force. To finish the day, all 150 of the Civilian Service Contingent gathered on Clive Steps for a group photograph which will be available for us to purchase. I’m extremely proud to have been a part of the country’s most important day of the official calendar, and it shall be one that I will never forget.
