O.C.O Technology specialises in carbon capture, sustainable construction products and waste treatment

About us

Specialists in carbon capture, sustainable construction products and waste treatment. We currently operate four sites in the UK: Brandon, Wretham, Avonmouth and Leeds with operations worldwide. One of very few commercially operating carbonation mineralisation companies in the world, we became pioneers in the field when we established our first manufacturing facility in 2012. We are experts in the application of Accelerated Carbonation Technology (ACT) for carbon capture. ACT is a genuine Carbon Capture and utilisation (CCU) process. Carbon dioxide is permanently captured as stable carbonate minerals. We are able to valorise thermal residues as construction products. In the UK, O.C.O Technology has three commercially operating plants producing carbon neutral aggregate, which is being supplied to the construction industry as a sustainable construction material. Our aggregate is named M-LS. M for Manufactured, LS for LimeStone. Accelerated Carbonation Technology (ACT) is an effective waste treatment process that stabilises contaminants, enhances the handling of the wastes, and can reduce disposal costs. A multitude of wastes can be readily treated and rendered less hazardous using ACT.

  • Celebrate the 12 days of Christmas with O.C.O Technology. Every day up until Christmas Eve, we will be sharing tips on how to be more sustainable over the Christmas period, ideas for Christmas in the community, and even Christmas recipes! Make sure to check back every day to find out more. DAY 1 Sustainability - 16.5 million advent calendars containing single-use plastic are produced every year. Along with other plastic waste, consumers send around 115,000 tonnes of plastic packaging to landfills every year. This year why not try a reusable advent calendar. This means that you won't have to buy another one next year and there is no plastic being sent to landfill, saving both money and the environment. Christmas in the community - Many different charities hold events every year looking for Christmas cards to send over the festive period. This makes a good activity for everyone in the family to make and write Christmas cards, while also supporting charity. Recipe - Mince Pies - https://lnkd.in/e-djQFXi

Recycle Week is here! ♻️ This year’s #RecycleWeek theme is ‘Rescue me’, focusing on rescuing items from the rubbish that could have been recycled. At Evero, we take part in a scheme that transforms process residue from the energy-from-waste plants (APCr) into a carbon negative aggregate used to create breezeblocks 🧱 🏗️ This ensures residue is recycled, diverted from landfill, and repurposed into something useful, whilst tackling climate change too ♻️ O.C.O Technology Ltd

  • Peter O'Nyons FIQ and Dave Olley from our Aggregates Team were excited recently to attend TOTAL AGGREGATES LIMITED Open Day to promote the use of O.C.O Technology Ltd's Manufactured Limestone (M-LS) in a blend to produce ReCO₂® a reduced carbon Type 1. They spoke to many potential customers about using our M-LS aggregate for various construction applications. ReCO₂® has been specifically designed to use Manufactured Limestone (M-LS). Produced using a 50/50 mix of M-LS and carboniferous virgin limestone, ReCO₂® offers a sustainable aggregate without compromising on quality. • Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming Holly Witchalls from LRQA to our Leeds site to undertake our first annual surveillance audit of our Competency Management System (CMS) to prove our technical competency to manage our bespoke waste environment permits. The audit commenced over two days, the first remotely and the second day at our Leeds site, where a full site tour was undertaken and our compliance to the CMS standard vetted. The audit concluded on the second day with another successful outcome. O.C.O implemented and embedded it’s CMS throughout the later months of 2022 and early 2023, gaining certification in November 2023. Prior to gaining certification for our CMS, O.C.O proved technical competency through the WAMITAB scheme, run jointly with the CIWM. Although both options above enable a business to prove technical competency, O.C.O made the decision to prove technical competency through its organisation rather than relying on an individual’s qualifications. This has embedded a greater knowledge of our permitted requirements amongst all employees, ensured compliance and removed the risks of any WAMITAB holder leaving the business. This is yet another example of a great initiative by O.C.O to drive continuous improvement through its organisation. • Huge success for our very first rail trial!! Our Leeds production facility is currently O.C.O Technology Ltd's largest producer of our carbon negative aggregate in the UK, producing in excess of 200,000 tonnes per annum. Given how widespread our aggregate customers are, we are always looking for more cost-effective solutions for getting our products where our customers need them and, having recently sublet a site at Bridgewater Road in Leeds from GB Railfreight, we found ourselves in the perfect position to look at developing movements by rail. The trial commenced on 12th August and saw 24 GB Railfreight wagons loaded with over 1,550 tonnes of our 0-40mm Manufactured Limestone (M-LS). After being stabled in Doncaster overnight, the train arrived in Boston, Lincolnshire the following day where the aggregate was received by Total Aggregates and unloaded with their 360 grab – one incredibly successful trial and, fingers crossed, a taste of what is to come... Peter Swann, Head of Manufacturing at O.C.O said “Railing our aggregate has been an ambition for the business for some time, to see it finally come to fruition is a great achievement. Its success was attributed to the months of preparation, hard work and cooperation between everyone involved, Total Aggregates, GB Railfreight and the team at O.C.O” Richard Hextall, Director at TOTAL AGGREGATES LIMITED said, “This rail venture between O.C.O. Technology and Total Aggregates ReCO2® products will further strengthen our joint commitment to decarbonising construction aggregates, helping the industry achieve its sustainability targets.” #sustainability #teamwork #success #trial #HauledByRail

  • We were delighted to welcome members of the Wretham Parish Council to our facility at Larkshall Mill, Wretham recently. O.C.O Technology Ltd Chairman Richard Skehens, Finance Director Peter Wroth and the Wretham site's Senior Supervisor Martin Whitehouse led the tour of the company's newest site and were able to chat with the councillors about our process and the plans for the future. After the visit, Richard said "The Parish Council have been very supportive of us since we first acquired the site, and it was a real pleasure to take them round. We have agreed that they will visit us again when the third production line is installed. The councillors were interested to see the extensive work we have already carried out on the site and were very supportive of our plans to upgrade the remaining buildings going forward. Once again I would like to thank them sincerely for their continued support of a local business." #localsupport #sustainability #proud #thankful

  • O.C.O Technology Ltd transitions to V4 of BES 6001, maintaining an EXCELLENT rating.   We are pleased to announce our successful transition from Issue 3.1 to Issue 4, whilst maintaining the EXCELLENT rating in the Framework Standard for Responsible Sourcing BES 6001. A rating we have held since our inauguration into the standard in 2021.   The BES 6001 standard is a means of securing certification to demonstrate through independent, third-party verification and certification, that raw materials for products certified against the scheme have been responsibly sourced and that O.C.O Technology operates in a way that minimises the impact on our environment and natural resources. This is a significant achievement once again, especially with the transition to the latest version of the standard, requiring input from all areas of the business, As a result, customers can be confident they’re working with a company that is committed to sustainability. This certification is a demonstration of a shared goal and collaboration throughout the supply chain, something that will be necessary to meet the construction industry’s overall carbon reduction targets and broader environmental standards. Using our unique ML-S products can assist in achieving this goal too. Continuing to operate at this high standard not only maintains O.C.O’s own excellent social and environmental performance but adds value for its customers too. Paul Barber commented: “O.C.O’s hard work has once again paid off with transition to the latest version and in maintaining our “BES 6001 EXCELLENT rating” – we are pleased that this certification also helps our customers achieve extra points in green building certification schemes, such as BREEAM”. #sustainability #success #excellent #responsiblesourcing
