We’re determined to ensure the views and voices of disabled people are at the heart of everything we do. The Lead Ministers for Disability will play a key role in championing disability rights, as well as promoting disability inclusion and accessibility, across their department and the missions. Minister for Social Security and Disability, Sir Stephen Timms MP, convened the ministerial network’s first meeting today, where Ministers discussed key barriers to opportunity and shared their priorities for shaping a better future for disabled people of all backgrounds.

The Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill introduced in Parliament today will make a child-centred government a reality by putting children’s interests first and stopping vulnerable children falling through cracks. The bill includes: 🏠 A new home education register and unique numbers for pupils – like every adult has a national insurance number – to stop children falling through the cracks. ⚠️ New rules on home education to protect vulnerable children. 🧑🏫 Stronger role for schools and professionals in safeguarding decisions, to make sure help can be mobilised for every child that needs it. Everyone should have the opportunity to succeed and thrive at workplace. Minister for Social Security and Disability Sir Stephen Timms visited New Warlands Farm to learn how they provide vocational training and employment opportunities for adults with learning disabilities – so they can move into employment in the agricultural sector. We are consulting with disabled people on changes to employment support and the social security system, to ensure they will have the same opportunities to move into work and experience the benefits of employment too often taken for granted.

📢 Today, we hosted a discussion, bringing together EU and UK experts, to share their expertise on how to address race inequalities. 💬The forum provided a valuable opportunity for exchange on policy and best practice. Event Highlights: • Minister for Equalities, Seema Malhotra FRSA opened the session, sharing her reflections as the first female Punjabi origin MP in the UK Parliament, before setting out some of the key steps in the UK Government’s mission to break down barriers to opportunity. • Keynote speakers Debbie Weekes-Bernard & Nela Riehl shared their insights on today’s challenges and underlined the important role of effective race equality policies and legislation for change. • The introduction of the UK's Equality (Race and Disability) Bill was discussed, showcasing the UK’s commitment to rooting out racial inequality and strengthening protections against discrimination. • A presentation on the key takeaways from the implementation of the EU’s Anti-Racism Action Plan 2020-2025. • A policy panel, including experts from the UK's Office for Equality and Opportunity, the European Commission's DG JUST, the European Parliament’s anti-racism intergroup, and the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance, explored concrete steps for overcoming the critical challenges that remain. The event underscored the importance of continued collaboration between like-minded partners to break down barriers to racial inequality.
