Event Highlights:
• Minister for Equalities, Seema Malhotra FRSA opened the session, sharing her reflections as the first female Punjabi origin MP in the UK Parliament, before setting out some of the key steps in the UK Government’s mission to break down barriers to opportunity.
• Keynote speakers Debbie Weekes-Bernard & Nela Riehl shared their insights on today’s challenges and underlined the important role of effective race equality policies and legislation for change.
• The introduction of the UK's Equality (Race and Disability) Bill was discussed, showcasing the UK’s commitment to rooting out racial inequality and strengthening protections against discrimination.
• A presentation on the key takeaways from the implementation of the EU’s Anti-Racism Action Plan 2020-2025.
• A policy panel, including experts from the UK's Office for Equality and Opportunity, the European Commission's DG JUST, the European Parliament’s anti-racism intergroup, and the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance, explored concrete steps for overcoming the critical challenges that remain.
