At the Osiri Matanda gold mine in Kenya, Eunice Atieno is transforming the artisanal mining sector ⛏️. With over 10 years of experience, she is a passionate advocate for mine safety, leading efforts to educate miners including women on the dangers of mercury exposure and promoting the use of protective equipment. Her work continues to empower miners to adopt safer practices and demand fair treatment in a male-dominated industry. Through our RECLAIM Sustainability! Gold project, Eunice has received safety training and Personal protective equipment kits 🦺, enabling her to educate others about responsible mining practices. Despite challenges like low pay, health risks, and gender discrimination, she remains committed to ensuring that women miners can work in safer, equitable conditions. Eunice’s story is a powerful reminder of resilience and community-driven advocacy, as well as the need for inclusive and sustainable mining practices ♻️.
