I had the privilege of moderating a transformative session that explored how young leaders can drive systemic change for a sustainable and thriving planet. Led by the inspiring Nolita Thina Mvunelo from the Club of Rome, the discussion was packed with powerful ideas and actionable strategies. In a time when education is crucial to unlocking South Africa’s potential, the recent dialogue led by the NetEd Group under Herman Marais serves as a beacon of hope. This event gathered thought leaders and stakeholders united around pressing issues: student education, skills gaps, and youth unemployment. South Africa’s education system faces considerable challenges, necessitating urgent action. The discussions underscored the need for champions—individuals and organizations ready to drive meaningful change. A collaborative approach emerged as vital; addressing these challenges requires a unified effort across all sectors of society. A key focus of the dialogue was the development of a fit-for-purpose funding model. As we work to restructure our education system, innovative financial strategies must take center stage. Participants acknowledged that effective investment in education involves not just allocating resources but ensuring they are used strategically to create an environment where every learner can thrive. The dedication shown by the NetEd Group and Eduvos to engage in this critical dialogue is commendable. A special thanks to Dr Retha Langa and her team for organising this event. It is a privilege to align with so many passionate leaders who are not only envisioning a better future but also taking tangible steps to make it a reality.
