👋 The end of 2024 marked the end of an era for us as Chris Bradley, Principal Percussion, said goodbye to Opera North at our Viennese Whirls concerts in #hudderfield and #hull. Chris was an (almost) founding member of the Orchestra of Opera North, joining permanently in 1979, which means leaves us after over 45 years of service. We wish him all the very best as he starts a new phase of his career as freelance percussion and cimbalom player. Thank you Chris! #goodbye #fondfarewell #percussion #thankyou

We're excited to announce All In has launched its pilot programme in Leeds! Leeds Heritage Theatres, Leeds Museums & Galleries, Leeds Playhouse , and Opera North are the first organisations to test the new access scheme for creativity and culture in the UK and Ireland. The four organisations represent a diverse range of artforms across theatre, museums, heritage, opera and art allowing the scheme to be tested across a range of different venues and creative outputs. The pilot will run for eight months through to summer 2025, laying the groundwork for expansion across West Yorkshire before a national roll out in the second half of 2025. We're All In! We're delighted to announce that we're part of Arts Council England's All In pilot programme which has launched in #Leeds! As another autumn season draws to a close, we say goodbye to so many brilliant cast and creative team members while also welcoming back to #leeds our amazing Chorus and Orchestra. It's been a fantastic tour to #newcastle, #salford and #nottingham, with two sold out performances of The Magic Flute to round everything off at Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall Nottingham. Did you hear? ON Tour has been shortlisted for the “Outstanding Music Education Resource” prize at the Music and Drama Education Awards 2025! 🎉 ON Tour brought a live orchestral experience from Skipton Town Hall directly to classrooms nationwide, allowing students to engage with 14 musicians from the Orchestra of Opera North. This interactive performance introduced KS2 pupils to the orchestra's sections, music's storytelling power, and the conductor’s role in keeping everyone in sync. 🎶 In partnership with Opera North, AMP Music, and Skipton Town Hall, ON Tour reached over 9,300 students across the UK, especially in rural areas with limited access to live music. Teachers noted their students' excitement and engagement, saying they loved joining in and were eager to rewatch! What's in a week? We were reflecting recently on what everyone had achieved in the previous seven days and the very different audiences we'd reached - and thought it just about summed up what we're all about! ⚡ Lighting up Leeds: over 3,000 people came to the Howard Assembly Room in #leeds to see Dreaming Being: A Bantutronic Experiece created for Leeds Light Night by Resonance alumnus THABO with Thanda Gumede 🎵 Taking Opera on the Road: Our three autumn season operas finished their run in #leeds and set off on tour to #newcastle, #salford and #nottingham (where Mozart's The Magic Flute has now #soldout!) 👻 Increasing Accessibility: We held a relaxed performance of Gilbert & Sullivan's Ruddigore for people living with dementia and anyone else who might find a traditional theatre setting difficult to navigate ✈️ Lights, Camera, Action: The Orchestra of Opera North played the score to Top Gun: Maverick live in Leeds Grand Theatre while a packed house watched the movie on the big screen 😊 Family Time: There were whoops, cheers and laugher all round as we performed our new family show - The Big Opera Adventure - in Huddersfield and Leeds Here's to the next seven days! #whataweek #audiences #operamatters #liveperformance #phew 📸 Justin Slee, richard hubert smith, Tom Arber
