Every woman and girl deserves to feel safe, empowered, and protected. After dark, street lighting is the most important environmental feature affecting our safety. Poor street lighting is linked to crime and gender-based violence globally. According to the UK College of Policing, improved lighting can lead to 70% fewer crimes in an area. We are thrilled to have been selected by the Executive Office of Northern Ireland to support their unwavering commitment to ending violence against women and girls (EVAWG). In a recent meeting with key project stakeholders, including a visit from junior ministers Pam Cameron and Aisling Reilly, we showcased our work at Orb Connect. Our solution, Starlight, is a smart streetlighting system that tackles two challenges in most rural communities: Safety and broadband connectivity. Starlight ensures pedestrian safety, monitors air quality, and provides internet connectivity in remote areas.
