It was a great pleasure for our O/// team to be part of the “Smell Above All: Where technology meets the nose” event last Friday. We are very proud to be the industrial partner for the 'Smell Care (I-smell): Engaging Users in Smell Self-Care at Home' project, funded by EPSRC as part of UK Research and Innovation & NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research), providing the academic and clinical team with the technology for digital smell training, that was developed through prior support by the European Research Council (ERC) Proof-of-concept award. #SmellHealth Our CEO/CTO Emanuela Maggioni presented her vision for technology-enabled smell care and long-term health and wellbeing benefits. Next to an interactive panel discussion, the O/// team was showcasing several demos and advances in digitising scent. Big thanks to the #smellcareuk project team, led by Marianna Obrist and our close, valued collaborators, especially Duncan Boak from Fifth Sense and Carl Philpott and Sanjoli Mathur from University of East Anglia, and the whole UCL Computer Science team for organising an excellent, engaging and impactful event Marianna Obrist Ceylan Beşevli, Giada Brianza, Christopher Dawes 🙌 We aim to keep supporting Smell Care through our scent technology innovation, including digital smell training and smell testing for improved quality of life (QoL) with a main focus on “scent-enhanced sleep quality” that recently received funding support by Innovate UK in partnership with Parkwalk Advisors.

We’re excited to share the success of our event "Smell Above All: Where the Nose Meets Technology"! 🎉🌍 Last week, over 100 attendees from around the globe gathered to celebrate the achievements of the EPSRC as part of UK Research and Innovation & NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research)-funded Smell Care Project, which aims to support those experiencing smell loss through innovative digital smell training. 👃💡 The event featured engaging discussions, live demos, and key insights from our incredible participants, academics, clinicians, and industry partners. We’re especially grateful to our special guests and their inspiring speeches: Chef Jozef Youssef from Kitchen Theory and our wonderful Dean Nigel Titchener-Hooker UCL Engineering. This project would not be possible without the support by our project partners OW Smell Made Digital (special thanks to Emanuela Maggioni, Viktor Pešek, and Christopher Dawes, Richard Hopper), Fifth Sense (with heartfelt thanks for the continuous support Duncan Boak and his team), Future Care Capital (thank you Lauren Evans), and our academic/clinical partners at the University of East Anglia (with outstanding support by Carl Philpott and Sanjoli Mathur), many thanks also to Matt Lechner and Ava Fatah gen. We are also grateful to our wonderful collaborators from Tohoku University, Yoshifumi Kitamura and Assoc. Prof. Chia-Huei Tseng, who made the journey from Japan to the UK to support and promote Smell Care through a cross-cultural dialogue, supported by a strategic UCL-TU partnership fund! 🙌 Together, we explored the vital yet under-appreciated role of smell in an increasingly digitalised world especially for enhanced health, wellbeing and quality of life. We continue promoting a culture of smell care through academic, public and policy engagement activities. #SmellCare. This project exemplifies how innovation, technology, and collaboration can create meaningful change!
