Paediatric Coeliac Disease; More Cases, More Symptoms and Fewer Biopsies Than Before Lydia Chapman, Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd, discusses her work in investigating the number of #paediatric patients diagnosed with #coeliac disease via biopsy and non-biopsy pathways and comparing this to their IgA-TTG results. The main findings showed that there are more diagnoses occurring via non-biopsy approach. The team also identified that all patients diagnosed with an IgA-TTG greater than 5x ULN were diagnosed with coeliac disease and thus they question the possibility of lowering the non-biopsy diagnosis threshold. This interview took place at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) conference 2024 in Birmingham, UK. Ethnic Diversity of Children and Young People with ADHD Tapomay Benerjee, Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust, discusses his work on describing the ethnic distribution of #children diagnosed with #ADHD. Dr Benerjee and his team identified that despite the significant ethnic minority population in the areas where the research took place, the representation of ADHD was only between 2% to 5%. Targeted awareness and working with ethnic minority communities was highlighted to support the outcome and management of ADHD in these children. A decade of UK accidental adrenaline auto-injector injury in children Emily Hilton, Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd, discusses her work in analysing enquiries to the National Poisons Information Centre related to accidental #adrenaline auto-injector injuries. In most cases, the symptoms of accidental injuries seemed to resolve spontaneously with a handful of cases requiring #antidote treatment for #ischaemia. Improved education regarding storage and safe use of #AAIs for carers may reduce accidental injury in children. This interview took place at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) conference 2024 in Birmingham, UK. Metabolic Dysfunction Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) in children: use of fibroscan Caitlin Murphy, King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, discusses her work in identifying identifying #fibroscan markers of #liver stiffness and steatosis, with #anthriopometry, #ultrasound and biochemical liver functions tests in 76 children with #MASLD. The majority of #children were found to have evidence of significant #steatosis and mild #fibrosis, both of which are completely reversible at the stage of identification. Are referrals for suspected paediatric bone and soft tissue tumours meeting the two week standard? Binod Pander, Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) NHS Trust, discusses his work in identifying if #cancer pathway standards are being met in a tertiary referral centre in #London. The standards are being adhered to in terms of reviewing patients within the two week time frame and diagnosing within 28 days. However, a delay was identified in initiation of cancer treatment. Furthermore, lots of cases of benign #osteochondroma have been identified as potentially leading to delay for other more important cases. Further discussions are needed to streamline the pathway for these benign cases. This interview took place at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) conference 2024 in Birmingham, UK.
