Connecting inclusive employers with top talent from the hidden talent pool looking for accessible employment.

About us

Patchwork Hub is an award-winning, disabled-led employment platform and jobs board. We connect disabled people, neurodivergent people and carers, alongside anyone who could benefit from more accessible work practices, to inclusive work opportunities. Alongside our jobs board, we also support employers across their whole accessibility and disability inclusion journey, from attraction and recruitment to retention of talent. We provide a range of training, consultancy and support packages to drive forward change within organisations. We work with employers of all sizes, from key partnerships with leading UK employers to charities and small businesses, delivering tangible improvements to their practices and culture. At the same time, we have a strong track record of working with policymakers and government to drive forward the policy and legislative change that is needed for a more disability inclusive and accessible world. Our community is at the heart of our work. We’re always looking to educate people on the importance of disability inclusion and to lift up disabled voices and initiatives. This may be through our impact partnerships with some incredible disabled-led organisations, or our spotlights and articles profiling some amazing disability changemakers. Over the last few years, we’ve posted thousands of job opportunities, skilled up and supported hundreds of employees across organisations and placed multiple candidates into jobs that work for them. Patchwork Hub is a small but dedicated social enterprise, with a clear social mission at our heart: creating an inclusive future of work and closing the disability employment gap. Our disabled-led organisation will continue to work every day to break down barriers for disabled people in work and drive the change that we all want to see in the world.

Disability inclusion is still being heavily neglected on business agendas.  90% of companies claim to prioritise diversity and inclusion. However, only 4% consider disability in those initiatives. And it’s always struck me as really self-defeating. Because disability cuts across all other demographics, and intersects with other identities in really fundamental ways that a proper understanding of diversity and inclusion has to reckon with. Yet disability often remains an afterthought from businesses. There are many reasons for this, from fears of “getting it wrong”, unconscious bias and myths about the costs of workplace adjustments through to senior leadership forgetting their legal duties to disabled employees, candidates and customers. But times are changing. Disability inclusion and access aren’t simply a ‘nice-to-have’. In the UK, mandatory disability pay gap reporting and disability employment reporting are on the horizon for employers with 250+ employees. And the days of making the business case for disability inclusion are long since over… it’s a business and legal imperative for your organisation.  Companies that champion disability inclusion report 30% higher profit margins compared to their peers. And with the global disability market reaching over $13 trillion, by overlooking disability, businesses risk losing out on the immense spending power of disabled households. It’s time to start *authentically* prioritising disability inclusion in your senior leadership’s agenda, and doing so with urgency. Need help? Not sure where to start? Reach out to Patchwork Hub and we can support you across your whole disability inclusion work, with our jobs board, training, consultancy and speaking services. 💌 hello@patchworkhub.org #DisabilityIsDiversity #DisabilityInclusion #disability #DEIStrategy #DisabilityHistoryMonth #IDPWD2024 Image description: Alt text can be found in the comments and image text is in the main body of the caption above. Continuing our Patchworker Spotlight Series, we recently caught up with the one and only Celia Chartres-Aris (née Hensman) to learn more about her story and the incredible work that she does. A multi-award-winning disabled founder & investor, and all-around changemaker, Celia spoke with us about her advocacy work, experiences and drive to achieve changes in policy for disabled people across the UK and beyond. Want to read the full story? Check out the full blog by visiting the link in the comments! #PatchworkerSpotlight #Inclusion #Accessibility #DisabilityAwareness Access2Funding Unlearning Ableism Image Descriptions: Slide 1: Purple background with stars. This background repeats throughout. A photo of Celia is displayed in the centre. Text reads: ‘Patchworker Spotlight! Celia Chartres-Aris. Slide 2: Heading text reads ‘Celia Chartres-Aris’. The text below reads ‘Celia is a multi-award-winning disabled founder, investor, campaigner & lobbyist, and policy & legal expert. A social entrepreneur, disability advocate and the founder of some incredible disability inclusion organisations, Celia works internationally and across sectors to push for change around disability equality, accessibility, and inclusion. We asked Celia a few questions to find out more about what drives her work and the things she’s learnt throughout her journey…’ In the bottom right corner is an image of Celia in a radio booth. Slide 3: Heading text reads ‘Can you tell us about yourself?’. Paragraph text reads ‘Born with multiple disabilities as a result of a rare and terminal genetic condition, Loeys-Dietz Syndrome, I live every day with multiple organ failure and have never known my life without disability. Taking pride in my disabled identity, I work hard to break down systemic ableism, discrimination and archaic stereotypes about the talents, potential and ability of disabled people.’ In the bottom corner is an image of Celia smiling at the camera. Slide 4: Heading text reads ‘What inspired you to start doing the work that you currently do?’. Under this, the text reads ‘Because of my own experiences of being discriminated against, constantly doubted and thought less of, since I was young I’ve always had a deep passion for law, politics & policy and a desire to change the mechanisms that govern our daily lives. I’m inspired by the notion of embedding the campaigns we’re all working so hard to achieve into policy so that no matter what, disabled people are protected from ableism. To me, policy is the key to change - we have to improve our laws of equity and inclusion to make sustained and long-term change.’ In the bottom right corner is an illustration of shooting starts flying over the Houses of Parliament. 🌟 Part 3 of Our Disability History Month Series!🌟 Beth Kume-Holland from Patchwork Hub and Bailey from Disability with Bailey are back to tackle another crucial topic:  💬 “How can you effectively communicate your workplace adjustments to your employer?” ✨ Key takeaway: Start by writing it down! Clear, written communication makes it easier for everyone to understand your needs. While in day to day language, it’s best to say “workplace adjustments / accommodations / access and support requirements”, it’s best for employees to have the term ‘Workplace Reasonable Adjustment’ in written plans for outright clarity and to align to terminology used in the Equality Act 2010. Here’s what else we cover: ✔️ Tools like Workplace Reasonable Adjustment Plans (WRAP) and Inclusion Cards can streamline the process. ✔️ Unsure what support you need? Speak with trusted people, Occupational Health, or HR for guidance. ✔️ Look for patterns – if you’re unsure what you need, but something feels awkward or unnecessarily hard, that’s your cue to explore adjustments! ✔️ Some employers even have a “menu” of common adjustments to make the process simpler. Stick around for practical frameworks and advice that will help you thrive at work – and ultimately, unlock your full potential! Make sure you catch up on previous editions of our series and share with your colleagues and peers to celebrate Disability History Month! • We’re well into Disability History Month - a time to celebrate the progress and contributions made toward disability rights while recognising the important work that still lies ahead. And this year’s #DisabilityHistoryMonth theme, ‘Disability Livelihood and Employment’, resonates deeply with us at Patchwork Hub. As a disabled-led jobs board and training provider, we’re dedicated to breaking down barriers to employment and creating inclusive opportunities. For too long, disabled professionals have faced unnecessary obstacles in accessing fulfilling work. But inclusive workplaces don’t just benefit disabled employees; they drive business growth, retention rates, team productivity, and create a supportive environment that ultimately benefits everyone. From meeting legal requirements to boosting the bottom line, the need to make a business case for disability inclusion is a thing of the past. And yet, despite how far we’ve come, we have a long way to go. So many employers are, unfortunately, not taking action… So please, support disabled professionals this month and beyond in any way you can - whether it’s simply reposting content to your network or asking your team what your organisation is currently doing around disability inclusion. And, if your organisation is interested in doing more around disability inclusion, let’s connect. Whether it be a training session, a consultancy project or ensuring you are attracting disabled candidates in your recruitment, we can help. DM us or reach out to hello@patchworkhub.org now 📩 #DisabilityEmployment #ChangingTheNarrative #RepresentationMatters Image Description: Title text reads ‘Disability History Month’.
