We’re delighted to confirm that Penso Consultancy and SHD Composites have been awarded a Pivot into Space grant to collaborate on a project to develop a sustainable, lightweight structural panel construction for space applications using a flame-retardant composite resin system which is 100% bio-based. Penso Consultancy, who are already applying their innovative solutions in the automotive, aviation and rail sectors will be leading the project and designing and manufacturing the press cure tooling for the prototype components and developing the press cure processing parameters. SHD Composites, who supply their enhanced sustainability product range across the transport sectors will be focussing on material development and ensuring they can meet space requirements whilst optimising performance. This combination of sustainable material development and press cure advanced manufacturing techniques, , aims to develop a space compliant composite structural panel architecture which is scalable to high production volumes with a quantified increase in sustainability. We wish these two innovative companies all the best in their collaboration and look forward to seeing prototype panels later in the year.
