People's Square
Civic and Social Organizations
Non-profit community that organises events aimed at helping understand Chinese consumers and trends in Chinese society.
About us
Chinese consumers are a globally powerful force in everything from commerce to culture. Studying what and how they consume, from products and services to news and culture, and the factors that impact consumer behaviour across different demographic groups is vital in helping us to frame how we understand the China of today and tomorrow. People’s Square was founded in the summer of 2024 to create an organised and collaborative community of people and institutions to observe Chinese consumers and consumers in a non-partisan, open-minded way and through a broad range of perspectives. Our name was chosen to represent the People’s Squares or People’s Parks that are commonplace in Chinese cities. They serve as social gathering points for different generations, accommodating a steady flow of people and generating a diversity of ideas and activities. People’s Square is a community of brands, consultants, government officials, academics, researchers and creatives who desire to go beyond outdated and inefficient frameworks, methodologies and stereotypes to OBSERVE consumers in the world’s second-largest economy. People’s Square is also a GATHERING POINT for China’s “Run Generation” offering a home from home and a chance to connect more deeply with their new home cities, as well as for non-Chinese who worked or studied in China before and have felt a little lost since leaving. Our activities are based around a wide variety of topics and event formats: panel discussions, art exhibitions, supper clubs, book clubs, museum visits, etc. We arrange our own activities but also collaborate, support and promote the events of our partners. The first branch of People’s Square was established in London, with ambitions to create a global network. Get in touch to join or become partner organisation.
