Plan International UK is a global children’s charity. We work to give every child, every chance.

About us

Plan International UK is a global children’s charity striving for an equal world. One where every child can reach their full potential and every girl can choose her own future. Poverty, violence, and discrimination still hold back millions of children around the world. And it’s often girls that are most affected. That’s why ensuring girls get equal chances in life is at the heart of everything we do. We work across more than 75 countries to build a future where every child is safe and receives an education. A world where all girls are free from violence, in control of their own body, know their rights and have their voices heard. And if disaster strikes, we’re there too. We work to protect children, keep them learning and help their communities recover. But we don’t do it alone. To create lasting change, we work together with children, local communities, partners, and supporters, like you, who believe a better future is possible. We won’t stop until we are all equal. Will you?

  • Remember the notes you had to send your teachers when you were at school? 📄 From permission slips for school trips and excuses when you forgot your PE kit. To absence notes when you were sick or couldn’t make it in because of snow. But imagine if you had to drop out of school for good. What would that note say? Suhad, 14, is now living inside a school in Gaza. She moved here after her home was destroyed during the recent conflict.  If she had to write an absence note to her teacher this is what it might say 👇 Find out more about Suhad's story and why millions of girls are missing out on school every day: https://bit.ly/3U1SQ05

I spoke to the BBC News World Service today about children in Sudan. BBC News World Service, Christmas Day: FAMINE is spreading in #Sudan, warns a new report by TheIPCinfo.                                     "...Food and time are running out for the most vulnerable such as children, pregnant women and breast-feeding mothers..." " This is a crisis of survival. War must stop now. We need to act fast to save lives.."  Full interview on the BBC World Service Newsday (25 Dec 2024 ), starting at 04.55 minutes.  https://lnkd.in/gdTVpDwF Or click the attached audio MP3 clip Plan International World Food Programme FAO UNICEF World Health Organization Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET)

  • As is all too often the case in times of conflict, girls and women forced from their homes are facing an increased threat of gender-based violence and abuse in Gaza and the West Bank. Displacement, food insecurity, and disruptions to essential services increase the risk of all forms of gender-based violence. We are calling for more funding to be allocated towards protecting women and girls against gender-based violence and prevent generations of women and girls from having their futures decimated. We also call for the UK Government halting the export of all arms, weapon parts and ammunitions to Israel, and urgently push for an immediate and permanent ceasefire across the region. Only then will we see girls and young women have the chance to rebuild their lives. https://lnkd.in/esJGG_MH

  • The situation in Gaza is catastrophic. While all new funding for Gaza is good news, the £19m pledged by the UK today is only a small step. People continue to be besieged by the Israeli military and over 1.6 million now live in temporary shelters. Much more funding is needed urgently at scale, and this funding must reach all parts of Gaza fast. It is also clear that no amount of funding can solve this crisis. The only way to end the suffering of millions of people is an immediate ceasefire so that humanitarian aid can be safely delivered to all those that so desperately need it. Last week’s ceasefire agreement in Lebanon was a vital step – we must now see the extension of this ceasefire into Gaza and the West Bank. Without this, children will continue to lose their lives, homes and loved ones. https://lnkd.in/eRBPkrzD

  • Since the war in #Sudan started last year nearly five million children – approximately the entire population of Ireland - have been forced from their homes. There are now more forcibly displaced children from Sudan than any other country. Tragically, these children are not just fleeing unimaginable violence and terror. With famine conditions declared in Sudan, millions of children are currently at risk of starving to death. Many more are at risk of becoming victims of rape and sexual violence. We are heartbroken and appalled by widespread reports that girls and young women have taken their own lives as a result of this. An entire generation of children’s lives have been devastated in Sudan. We must act now. To help us reach children who have lost their livelihoods to this war – both within Sudan and in neighbouring countries hosting Sudanese refugees – donate to Plan International UK’s emergency appeal ➡️ https://bit.ly/3UbBaPv Every child deserves to live a life free from terror, violence and hunger. https://lnkd.in/ehxhjMty

  • We welcome the news of an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon. The extreme violence resulting from Israel's escalation and invasion of Lebanon has already seen over 3,000 people – including at least 200 children – killed and almost thousands displaced. Many are living in emergency temporary accommodation, and the need for aid such as food, shelter and psychosocial support is growing by the day. These heartbreaking events cannot be allowed to continue. The agreement must act as a vital step towards a sustained, permanent ceasefire - both in Lebanon and across Gaza and the wider Middle East region - and essential that all parties respect this ceasefire so that vital humanitarian aid can be delivered to the children and families that desperately need it. The horrors must stop immediately: all children deserve to enjoy their childhood free from the threat of violence. https://bit.ly/4i0f9NY
