This time last week we arrived in Helsinki, charged up for Slush as part of an international trade mission with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology! ✈️ Diane Gilbert, Robert Kearney and Alan Every led a blended cohort of ambitious leaders from fast-growth businesses as part of our current Cyber Runway programme, with delegates joining us from Ignite and Scale streams. The BBC is running Scam Safe Week, a special programming series across platforms to spotlight protective measures. The BBC’s Chief Content Officer, Charlotte Moore, says: “With fraud now making up over 40% of all crime in the UK, raising public awareness is more important than ever.” So with that in mind, can you hack into a bank account using AI voice cloning? BBC Radio 4 reporter Shari Vahl has investigated whether the growing field of AI voice cloning can be used to bypass security systems that require voice ID. Saj Huq, Plexal CCO and National Cyber Advisory Board member, joined Shari on BBC Radio 4 in line with her investigation. Sharing thoughts on the threat of AI going unchecked, he said: "I'm really concerned, this is a serious issue. As a country and society, this is just one element of the risks that the proliferation of generative AI presents. We on the defensive side can't slow down our rate of innovation and adaption of technologies to safeguard consumers." Last week we welcomed some familiar faces to London as our UK Gulf Women in Cybersecurity Fellowship alumnae joined us for a post-programme reunion, guided by Plexal team members including Jessica Moffatt-Owen, Monika Radclyffe and Winnie Yan. The Fellows, who hold roles across the GCC, reflected on how they can work together as female leaders to bring about positive change in the sector and influence stakeholders in their organisations and on a global stage. From sessions on the art of being an intrapreneur, cyber diplomacy and networking with startups at Plexal Stratford through to powerful policy insights with the National Cyber Security Centre and exploring the UCL Campus, it was a busy week of learning and knowledge sharing, forming new connections and reinforcing existing relationships.
