Portal Security will expand its London Security Division through a new joint venture with experienced industry security experts, Adrian Moore and David Ward CSyP FSyl. The Power of Communication in Frontline Operations! Like most in the industry, the start of a shift, is briefing time. This morning was a little different for our team at HRUC (Harrow, Richmond & Uxbridge Colleges) one of the Campus teams took it a stage further and went through the critical importance of effective communication, incident response, and proactive thinking through our ‘What if’ scenarios. As a new team, this is a testament to the hard work put into training and the value of listening and acting on feedback. Our ‘You said, We did’ approach from the Management team has created an environment where ideas are shared, and improvements are made. Learning & Development of our frontline Supervisors not only enhance our team's performance but also ensures that we are prepared and don’t become complacent! We were delighted to attend the first City of London Crime Prevention Association meeting of 2025. As members of the CPA it’s good value and great to hear the insights shared during the monthly meetings. A couple of takeaways from us were, copycat incidents, both terror and criminal methodologies, the importance of not becoming complacent in our own security measures and the role of the National Vehicle Threat Mitigation Unit. The NVTMU is made up of subject matter experts who have a wealth of experience in the deployment of temporary vehicle security barriers, they understand the methodology behind Vehicle as a Weapon Attacks and the use of Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) as intentional weapons against people, events or infrastructure. A great resource to look up. It was also really interesting to hear the statistics about Op Lightening and that the #SecurityIndustry was the significant majority effort in reporting hostile reconnaissance throughout 2024. This is great news, particularly with the work the The City Security Council did in relation to training and increasing the reporting knowledge. We really do encourage all security professionals and businesses to join the CPA. It’s a fantastic network for staying updated on current initiatives, sharing knowledge, and enhancing or supporting security strategies. This end of term, while others took a break, Portal Security have been delivering some brilliant developmental training, led by our very own Philip Thomas MSyl CSMP . We kicked things off with a fun 'post festive period' energiser, followed by engaging sessions that honed in on skills, qualities, and team dynamics. Our focus on operational deployments, behaviours, evidence management and team dynamics not only enhances our officers capabilities but also creates great teamwork. As we gear up for the big return from HRUC (Harrow, Richmond & Uxbridge Colleges), it's clear that we’re starting the year strong with a commitment to continuous learning and development and enhancing our operational delivery. We are absolutely delighted that our very own David Ward CSyP FSyl has been recognised in the New Year’s Honours List. David, Director at Portal Security and the Founder of ABIGAIL'S FOOTSTEPS has been awarded an MBE from His Majesty King Charles III in the New Year’s Honours list David and his wife Jo launched Abigail’s Footsteps in 2010, one year after losing their daughter Abigail. Abigails’ Footsteps is a baby loss charity which provides support and counselling for bereaved parents and families as well as specialist bereavement training for midwives and healthcare professionals. Sadly, stillbirths and neo-natal deaths occur daily, yet many hospitals are not equipped to deal with the parental care required. David has made it his mission to ensure health professionals are better equipped and prepared to support bereaved families and every hospital in the country will have an Abi Cooling Cot to give bereaved families valuable time to spend with their baby before saying goodbye. David Ward, Founder and Trustee, Abigails Footsteps said, “When we started the charity, we had no idea what we could achieve, but we were determined to make a difference. At the time, we didn’t realise how much impact the charity would have; now, as we look back, we can see that it has been significant in supporting many bereaved families over the years. We have produced and distributed two educational films aimed at teaching midwives about baby loss. In addition, we provide counselling for bereaved parents and support for maternity health professionals. We have also developed the Abi Cooling Cot, which enables bereaved families to spend more time with their babies. I am honoured to accept this award from His Majesty on behalf of myself and Jo, who equally deserves recognition, and all of the bereaved families that we have supported over the years. This award honours the memory of our daughter Abigail and acknowledges the wonderful, groundbreaking work that Abigail’s team has accomplished over the past 15 years. Our very own Adrian Moore MSyl was out and about today and had the pleasure of visiting a few of our client premises to catch up with our dedicated Security Officers. Although the Portal Security ‘Naughty Elf’ decided to ‘hide his Santa costume, it is great to connect with the team and show our appreciation for their hard work during the festive season. A big thank you to all our officers for their commitment and service throughout the year and in particular those working over this festive period.
