Pride in STEM is a charitable trust run by an independent group of LGBT+ scientists & engineers from around the world. We're proud of who we are and what we do. STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) seem to have low numbers of out LGBT+ people, both for personal or environmental reasons. By showing that not everyone working in STEM fits the same mould, we hope to challenge the general public’s perceptions of what scientists should be like. It is becoming more and more evident that embracing diversity, in all its forms, is vital for the future of the innovation that science, and the world, relies so heavily upon. As such, we’re here to share our voice as LGBT+ individuals in STEM who want to show that science is for everyone.

It was wonderful to celebrate the international day of LGBTQIA+ people in STEM at the The Royal Institution with Pride in STEM I had a great time giving a talk about using whole genome sequencing (WGS) to investigate outbreaks. Thank you to the BBSRC , NRPDTP Doctoral Training Partnership and Quadram Institute for support during my PhD.

I am going full time freelance in September! (please reshare this post to your networks) I have been working part time and freelancing for just over 6 years. Sadly my part time role at the ASE will be coming to an end soon. I will miss working on the Inclusion in Science programme and my team, some of which I have worked with for a long time. I am using this as an opportunity to become a full time freelancer from September.
