🇺🇸 Prova Health has set up its first international office in the US! 🇺🇸 I am delighted that Ryan Callahan has joined the team at Prova Health and will lead our activities in the US. To fulfill our mission, we need to be where health innovation happens and the US is the biggest market in the world for it. Having a permanent presence there has always been a priority. Ryan has a very detailed understanding of the US health system and will allow us to help innovators that want to enter the market and to meet US clients where they are. For me though, the best thing about this is the opportunity to work with Ryan again. We first met over 10 years ago, both attracted to London by an interest in global health systems, and worked together at McKinsey and Imperial College. It's great to be reunited and to think back to the great team at the Leading Systems Network - Egbert Schillings, Rob Schlissberg, Didi Thompson, Adam Frey, Kelsey Shenstone, Jean Drouin, Nicolaus Henke, Giulia Peterlongo, Sabine Vuik, PhD, Bjoern Albrecht, Ph.D., Brian Newkirk, Naheed Jivraj, Jeff Spight, Massimiliano Pezzoli, Jose Antonio Martin MD MBA and many others.

🌎 Could chatbots help boost vaccine uptake across the world? 💉 🇦🇷 For this edition of the Prova Health Journal Club, we're exploring the recent Nature Human Behaviour article on the use of a behaviourally informed chatbot to increase COVID-19 vaccination rates in Argentina. 🤖↔️ The study, led by our friends at BIT, set out to understand whether a behaviourally-informed, two-way interactive chatbot could increase COVID-19 vaccination rates more effectively than a traditional one-way reminder message, with promising results. 📊 Key findings from the study include: 1️⃣ The interactive chatbot more than tripled the COVID-19 vaccination uptake compared to the control group (who received no messages). 2️⃣ The interactive chatbot almost doubled vaccination rates compared with those who received a one-way reminder (which were still impactful). 3️⃣ User engagement was relatively high, with 25% of users engaging with initial messages. See the chart below for details. 🔎 As the authors outline, "Identifying scalable interventions to sustain preventive behaviours when people are not motivated by a high-risk context is an important public health problem.” 💫 This research suggests a promising future role for appropriately designed chatbots to increase vaccine uptake, and potential for further research into the role of similar tools in other health settings. 🔓 The article is Open Access and available at the link below. 🏃♀️ It’s been a characteristically busy few weeks for our Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer, Dr Saira G.. 📚 Saira’s appearances at the the FT Live Global Pharma and Biotech Summit and the Future Health at BMJ Group conference bookended a trip to Lisbon for the European Public Health Conference with EUPHA - European Public Health Association and The Commonwealth Fund. 🌎 It’s been great making so many connections (and reconnections!) in the digital health community across the global in 2024. We’re looking forward to many more opportunities next year! 🗓
It’s been a great few weeks on the conference circuit in November discussing all things related to cybersecurity in healthcare and evidence generation in digital health! First up was the FT Live Global Pharma and Biotech Summit with Michael Peel. We did a fireside chat and discussed the current state of cybersecurity in healthcare and life sciences and the increasing threat globally. Great to hear from Emma Walmsley and Demis Hassabis at the same event. Over to Lisbon next EUPHA - European Public Health Association with The Commonwealth Fund to talk about evidence generation for AI. It was great to share the stage with Dr. Benedikt Simon. Thanks to Reginald D. Williams II, Munira Z. Gunja and Evan D. Gumas for organising a great event! Congratulations to Future Health at BMJ Group on their inaugural conference. I had the pleasure to talk about evidence generation in digital health yesterday and all the work going on Prova Health. Today I had the pleasure of speaking about cyber resilience in health with Phil Huggins and Dr Saif Abed. More than anything- always great to catch up with people at these events and have lots of excellent discussions!! 🔐 Our Chief Medial Officer Dr Saira G. just spoke on cybersecurity in healthcare and life sciences at the FT Live Global Pharma and Biotech Summit, alongside business leaders such as Emma Walmsley and Demis Hassabis. 🔐 This is one of the most critical challenges in the digital transformation of the sector, but is still often overlooked. The threat is rising (from 32 events in 2022 to 121 in 2023 according to the European Repository of Cyber Incidents), but investment in prevention and preparedness is lagging (US health-care organisations allocate an average of 7% of spending to cybersecurity vs 11–12% in other sectors). Thanks to Michael Peel for a great interview!

In today’s evolving healthcare landscape, it’s not enough for digital health solutions to improve clinical outcomes - they must also demonstrate clear economic value. For decision-makers operating under budget constraints, each new investment in innovation often requires trade-offs, meaning that every decision has a real opportunity cost in terms of health outcomes. This is why proving value for money to these decision makers is critical. Investors in digital health companies have taken note. 94% of investors state that demonstrating return on investment (ROI) is essential for the success of digital health companies. Beyond initial outcomes, it’s vital to quantify the financial impact of solutions using real-world data, especially after adoption, to justify pricing and achieve commercial objectives. For innovators, the takeaway is clear: hard evidence is necessary to support both economic and clinical benefits. Solutions that cannot substantiate their value with data risk missing out on investment, reimbursement, and scalable adoption. To explore how to build a strong case for the economic impact of your digital health solution, read the latest white paper from Prova Health, developed in collaboration with York Health Economics Consortium and leading health economics experts. 📩 If you’re seeking support in generating robust economic evidence for your digital health solution, our team is ready to help.
