International Men’s Day provides us with an opportunity to promote positive discussions about men’s issues and learn more about men’s mental health and the support available within QinetiQ, as well as a chance to check-in with a colleague, friend or family member and offer our support. Through our Gender Balance Network we provide a platform for mutual support and raising awareness, creating impactful opportunities for connection, sharing different perspectives and identifying any improves that can help strengthen our commitment to diversity and inclusion. This year’s theme is positive male role models, so today we’re encouraging our people to share stories of the role models in their life and how they are encouraging others to look after their health and wellbeing. Tell us about your positive male role model in the comments 👇 #internationalmensday #lifeatqinetiq #mensmentalhealth
On your marks, get set, RACE! Last week, QinetiQ hosted the Powerboat Challenge for local schools at our marine technology facility in Haslar, Gosport. Eleven teams from across Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight were all given identical motors, propellers and a battery, before having to construct and then race their chosen seaworthy designs around QinetiQ’s Ocean Basin. The creativity on display was impressive, with teams clearly articulating their design rationale, also reacting well to on-the-spot challenges, based on their performance in each heat. Some did end up in the QinetiQ repair shop after sinking but this only sparked further enthusiasm as students sought a solution to improve performance. Now in its 15th year, QinetiQ seeks to highlight science, technology, engineering and/or maths career options to the next generation, with aims of inspiring the naval architects, hydrodynamicists, marine and system engineers of the future. The fastest boat of the 2024 Powerboat Challenge was designed by Cowes Enterprise College an Ormiston Academy, while the Judges Favourite Award went to Bournemouth School for Girls for their enthusiasm and team spirit. Huge thanks to this year’s judges: Lorna Wagner, Sharon Jones, Captain Mark Hamilton, Lt McDermmot, Richard Froude and QinetiQ’s own John Bonnar and Andrew Peters. The BBC South team also attended this year’s event, getting to witness the students’ enthusiasm and expertise, first hand: https://lnkd.in/eb5ih7mQ
After presenting our Half Year Results to the market this morning, Group CEO Steve Wadey and CFO Martin Cooper unpacked what the figures mean for the company, our priorities for the second half of the year and trends we are seeing across the defence industry, with members of the media.
British defence company QinetiQ is planning to expand in the U.S. as the country ramps up defence spending, its chief executive Steve Wadey told me in an interview after the company posted revenue above expectations. In recent years, QinetiQ has grown in the U.S. through acquisitions. It now generates about $500 million a year in the country and employs around 1,500 people. “The U.S. market is really important and attractive. We see good long-term prospects in America,” Wadey said, adding that Donald Trump’s win in the U.S. presidential election is unlikely to hinder QinetiQ’s growth because the company is well-aligned with U.S. defence priorities. The plans include expanding the company’s presence in Huntsville, Alabama, a hub for aerospace and defence companies, popularly known as “Rocket City” after giving birth to the rockets that first put men on the Moon. https://lnkd.in/ds-_wUHX

Our Group CEO Steve Wadey hosted Vice Admiral Sir Chris Gardner KBE, Submarine Delivery Agency Chief Executive, at our Farnborough technology centre this week. Throughout the visit we showcased world-leading technologies – including new laser directed energy weapons #DragonFire to defeat drones, inter-connected autonomous systems to deliver much greater combat mass for the front line, and advanced materials that ensure the stealth of military platforms. The visit strengthens our relationship with UK MOD through the Strategic Partnering Programme – focused on creating long term economic prosperity. We are proud of the key role we play in support of the UK’s defence and security. #partnership #technology #militarycapability
QinetiQ had a unique opportunity to demonstrate our Test and Evaluation credentials and strengthen partnerships with defence and industry this week, supporting Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) in the Autonomous Warrior 2024 exercise in Jervis Bay.
We recently played a valued role supporting Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) in the Autonomous Warrior 2024 exercise in Jervis Bay. Autonomous Warrior is a key event for Robotic and Autonomous Systems experimentation, paving the way for future innovations in maritime defence. In partnership with Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) and Forcys Australia, our team delivered a rapidly deployable underwater tracking range system for independent assessment of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles. It was a unique opportunity to demonstrate our Test and Evaluation credentials and strengthen partnerships with defence and industry. This success was made possible by our dedicated teams from across QinetiQ Australia, QinetiQ and QinetiQ US. #WeAreQinetiQ #Innovation #TestAndEvaluation #AcceleratingCapability
Great to see William Hartridge, our UK based maritime underwater signatures expert, presenting at Submarine Institute of Australia this week, sharing his insights on managing complex signatures to enhance the Royal Australian Navy's current and future capabilities.
William Hartridge, Solution Architect – Underwater Signatures at QinetiQ will deliver a presentation on "The Future of Australian Maritime Signatures" at next week’s Submarine Institute of Australia Conference in Canberra. Working in an underwater domain can be an unforgiving, complex and highly pressurised environment. With that in mind, the safety of submariners and divers is at the forefront of our minds as we design, test and evaluate underwater capabilities at our Haslar site in Gosport. One of our focus points is on Submarine Escape, Rescue, Abandonment and Survival (SMERAS), testing life-saving equipment, including escape suits and rescue solutions.
