  • 📣 After much reflection and dialogue, RJN has decided to exit the Climate Action Leeds (CAL) Partnership. Our commitment to race and climate justice means recognising the deep rooted impacts of colonialism and imperialism in both local and global contexts. Over the past three years, our experience within CAL has reflected broader patterns of oppression. These are deeply systemic and structural issues that exist and persist within the Partnership. It has caused racialised harms to ourselves, our communities and distracted us from the work of the 13th Recommendation. ✊🏾 As Elder and Prof. Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o says in his book, Decolonising the Mind, "The oppressed and exploited of the earth maintain their defiance: they will not capitulate. They have only their chains to lose. They will break free." Our work on climate justice goes beyond this partnership; it predates CAL and will continue on after. We are committed to the 13th and welcome you to join us - our volunteer call out is live now! • We are thrilled to announce the launch of our 2024 Volunteer Programme at the Racial Justice Network (RJN). We are calling for volunteers across the North to help us realise our mission of addressing the legacies of colonialism through holistic, societal, environmental, spiritual and cultural repair and transformation. There's opportunity to get involved across all of projects and with varying roles to choose from based on your particular interests, skills and experience. We recognise that traditional volunteering can often be exploitative, undervaluing the vital contributions of individuals. At RJN, we aim to create a supportive community where your work is valued and impactful. • 7 days to go! Has the #UnlearningRacism programme served its purpose? Look out for our #ReportLaunch on the 21st of March. Here’s a blog about what’s to come, and some of the lessons learnt over the last 7 years of mobilising white people and communities towards collective action to dismantle the structures and systems of white supremacy, under the leadership and in service of Black and Brown movements for liberation. What we set out to do has not been straightforward, simple or easy and we have learnt a lot in attempting this alongside people who are longing for alternatives to the status quo of white supremacy and are willing to learn.
