Free ‘home away from home’ accommodation in 14 Houses in the UK for families to stay close to their child in hospital.

About us

Sometimes, the best medical care for your child isn’t close to home. When a child falls ill, families can find themselves at a specialist hospital far from home. They might be there for weeks or months; in an unfamiliar city, with unfamiliar faces. Ronald McDonald House Charities UK provides free family accommodation across the UK, located moments away from the children’s ward for as long as they need. In the last few busy days before Christmas, the incredible team at E3P made time to volunteer at our Birmingham House - and what a difference they made! Already loyal supporters of Ronald McDonald House Charities UK in Manchester, E3P recently opened a new office in Birmingham and were eager to extend their support to families in this region too. Yesterday, they brought festive cheer to our House Christmas Party by creating and handing out fantastic goodie bags for the children. Packed with sweets, toys, and fun festive treats, these thoughtful gifts brought huge smiles to little faces. The team didn’t stop there! They also pitched in to support our hardworking housekeeping team, helping us stay on top of things during this busy time of year. A huge thank you to E3P for your time, energy, and generosity. Your support means so much to us and the families we care for. We’re excited to continue working with you in 2025!

  • From London to Cardiff, Manchester to Edinburgh, over the past couple of weeks, our Houses have been transformed into magical, festive spaces for our families staying away from home this Christmas. Our annual Decorate for December celebration helped to create warm, familiar spaces, where families could momentarily step away from hospital routines to enjoy the festive rituals that make this season special. The simple joy of decorating a Christmas tree took on profound meaning, as families separated from home by their children's hospital admission came together to celebrate treasured holiday traditions. Many of these joyous events were supported by wonderful McDonald's teams, who brought tasty treats, face painting and party games. They also helped to deck the halls while special guests including Mayors and members of Parliament joined us for House tours and to learn about how we keep families close, all year round. A huge thank you to all our guests and volunteers, who were a part of our now traditional Christmas get-togethers. 💝 Every bauble hung and light strung helped make our Houses feel more like home during this year’s Christmas season. 🏠✨

Today, we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming an incredible team from JLR to our Birmingham Ronald McDonald House Charities UK House. Not only did they present us with a generous £3,500 donation - enough to fund 100 nights of accommodation for families with children in hospital - but they also rolled up their sleeves got stuck into some hands on volunteering. From wrapping gifts to cleaning our communal spaces, their support has made a real difference today. What stood out most was how kind and engaging the entire team were - taking the time to ask questions, connect with our amazing House team, and truly embrace the spirit of giving back. We’re so thankful to have been put forward and selected as one of JLR’s 12 Charities of Christmas and it was incredible to hear about the many ways they support local charities and give back to the community. Their kindness, energy, and commitment to making an impact shone through in every way. Thank you, JLR, for helping us keep families close when they need it most. We look forward to working with you again in the future! Wishing you all a Merry Christmas! 🎄

Ronald McDonald House Bristol Decorate for December! 🎄 On a recent visit to our wonderful Bristol House, I was supporting the Decorate for December event alongside the incredible House team, our new House Manager Sarah Freed and our new Director of Fundraising, Marketing and Communications, Louise Firth, Community Fundraiser Ericka Heron and Corporate Fundraiser Billy Keogh! To help raise the festive spirit among families with sick children, in Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, our Ronald McDonald House Bristol put on an array of activities for the families to get stuck into! We were joined by Franchisee Laura Wilder and her inspiring representatives from her team at Marmalade Restaurant’s Ltd - thank you for helping us create a magical atmosphere! The guest of honour for the event was The Right Honourable Lord Mayor of Bristol, Councillor Cllr Andrew Varney, alongside The Lord Mayors Consort, Robbie Vogelaar and Green Councillor Sibusiso Tshabalala. Our special guests joined in with the festivities and learned more about the impact Ronald McDonald House Charities UK has on the lives of so many families that travel far and wide! Last month, a group of HiB volunteers returned to the Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham to lend a helping hand in decorating for Christmas! 🏡🧑🎄 With 65 bedrooms across six floors, plus lounges, dining rooms, and kitchens on each level, it was a big task! Nevertheless, the team were determined and helped transform the space into a warm and welcoming haven for families who are staying close to their children in hospital during the holiday season. ☃️🎁 A huge thank you to 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗮, 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗮, 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗺, 𝗞𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗞𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁𝘆 for their time and effort in making this happen!💙 #CaringForTheCommunity #Charity #RonaldMcdonaldCharities #ChildrenCharity  Ronald McDonald House Charities UK

Connolly Scaffolding Ltd support numerous charities throughout the year but there is one charity in particular which we have a strong connection with, Ronald McDonald House Charities UK and their House in Manchester. Our Managing Director and President of the NASC - National Access and Scaffolding Confederation Wayne Connolly talks about his personal experience with Ronald McDonald House in Manchester. Wayne said, “When my son was diagnosed with Leukaemia, it was an extremely challenging time for the family”. “Due to part of the treatment, he needed a bone marrow transplant which was to be carried out at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, which is just opposite Ronald McDonald House. Being able to be so close to the Children’s Hospital was a huge relief for myself and my family”. “Ronald McDonald House is a fantastic resource which provides a ‘home away from home' for families who are at their toughest time. Families travel to Manchester from across the North West, the UK and even internationally, so that their children can receive specialist treatment at The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital”. “Every year Connolly Scaffolding buy our clients Christmas gifts and of course while we greatly appreciate our clients business I feel that the money we would normally spend on gifts could be used to support families whose children are seriously ill and require lifesaving treatment”. Wayne Connolly visited Ronald McDonald House Manchester to meet with Janet Pennington to deliver the cheque for our donation. “From myself and everyone at Connolly Scaffolding Ltd we wish all the amazing staff at Ronald McDonald House Manchester, the families and their children a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year”. #ronaldmcdonaldhousemanchester #ronaldmcdonaldhousecharitiesuk #connollyscaffolding

As part of my role, I love getting out to meet the companies I work with and it's even more special to be included in their Christmas celebrations. I'd like to say a huge thank you to Samantha Hall and all the MCAT team at Medtronic for all their support through the year, through engaging volunteers, fundraising events, donating items for our Houses and sorting out match funding. Today they raised over £3,000 split across Ronald McDonald House Charities UK and Ronald McDonald House Ireland which will be massively appreciated by the families able to stay close to their sick baby or child in hospital 💗 Thank you to everyone at Medronic for supporting us and well done to the lucky raffle prize winners!

  • Good luck, Team Graft! Yesterday, four Ronald McDonald House Charities UK fundraisers set off on the challenge of a lifetime – rowing 3,000 miles across the unforgiving Atlantic Ocean, competing in the World’s Toughest Row. 🚣 ‘Team Graft’ is made up of McDonald’s Franchisees Dean Fitzmaurice and Matthew Pitchforth and they, along with teammates Nick Perks and Richard Hornsey, are facing one of the world’s most notorious and gruelling physical challenges, rowing across the ocean from the Canary Islands to Antigua – a journey expected to take around 35 days. They’re doing it with the aim of raising £1m for our Charity, a cause close to their hearts. We are eternally grateful for their incredible support and wish them all the best for the challenging journey ahead. 💪
