ROKBOX reusable art shipping crates are redefining by eradicating packaging waste, lowering carbon emissions and costs.
About us
ROKBOX is redefining art shipping by eradicating packaging waste, and lowering carbon emissions and costs. In the fast-paced, high volume, high value art world of today, the movement of artworks is more global and challenging than ever. Artworks travel to and from a vast network of storage facilities, exhibitions, art fairs, auctions, collections and galleries. A single artwork might move through three or four continents in just a few months in order for it to be shown to an ever expanding audience. ROKBOX was founded to: - Protect artworks better than ever before; - Create a truly reusable artwork crate in order to reduce environmental impact; - Combine simplicity and versatility through innovative design. Over the past four years we have researched and analysed what the best methods of protecting art are; what can and does go wrong when artwork packaging fails; and what materials are the most reliable for the task: lightweight, inert, strong, durable and waterproof. Armed with this knowledge we have worked with an award winning design team to produce ROKBOX, which we are excited to be launching commercially in late 2018. The patented ROKBOX design is based upon the principle of securing an artwork to a rigid Floating Panel - cushioned in all axes from shock, impact and vibration. ROKBOX hardware secures artworks to the panel without the need of tools, reducing scope for human error and saving time. Engineered for multiple reuse and to accommodate two dimensional artworks of different sizes without the need for internal refit, ROKBOX offers economic and environmental efficiencies. ROKBOX is a new gold standard in artwork protection for the storage and transportation of two dimensional artworks.

Thanks to all the wonderful people we saw and met in Scotland last week! From our Dundas Street evening soiree in Edinburgh to presenting to the UKRG at V&A Dundee, it was an absolute pleasure to be so welcomed and hear so much enthusiasm for ROKBOX. A huge thanks to Jacqueline Austin, along with Daniel Smernicki of the UK Registrars Group and everyone at V&A Dundee. Despite the snowy journey back to London, we are already planning our next trip.

Thank you Christie's and Guillaume Cerutti, Julien Pradels and David Findlay for truly leading the way by committing to rigorous climate action and sustainable business practices within our sector.
Today marks a significant milestone for Christie's in our commitment to sustainability! I am pleased to announce that our ambitious plan to reach Net Zero and reduce carbon emissions by 90% by 2050 has been officially approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), the UN-backed organization setting global standards for carbon measurement. Christie’s is now the only auction house to commit to such rigorous goals under the independent scrutiny of SBTi. As we work towards this vision, we are proud to collaborate with key partners like Crozier Fine Arts, Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC), ROKBOX, Dietl International Services, and Delaware National Art Company, LLC, to drive sustainability in our industry without compromising the quality of service we provide. We recognize there’s still much work ahead, and we are far from complacent. Our commitment is to collaborate with the wider art community and drive lasting, systemic change. We will continue to keep you updated on our progress as we move forward on this important journey. And we will of course continue in parallel to support charitable initiatives in the field of sustainability, as we recently did in London with Blue Marine Foundation, auctioneering works from more than 20 world leading artists, including one photograph captured during a unique performance by Marina Abramović in May 2024 stressing the urgent need for the preservation of the ocean. As art lovers, we don't need convincing that art lifts us up! Art is proven to make you feel better. In a hospital environment art eases anxiety, stress and depression, shortens patients’ length of stay in hospital and reduces patients’ need for painkilling medication. And so, we were INCREDIBLY happy to support the fantastic work of Paintings in Hospitals, by lending them a ROKBOX Lite to carry multiple artworks to the Affordable Art Fair this year. Painting in Hospitals is an absolute gem of a charity. They make a real difference to the experience of patients and staff in UK health and care settings. It was a pleasure to help them out, and help them reduce their environmental impact at the same time!
Thanks to the team at ROKBOX we have managed to borrow a ROKBOX Lite, for our artwork to be safely and securely transported to the Affordable Art Fair. This cost-effective solution not only protects our pieces but also reduces our environmental impact. As you can see, we’ve managed to fit quite a bit inside! If you’re attending the fair, we can’t wait to see you there! And if you haven’t yet secured your tickets, it’s not too late—just head to the Affordable Art Fair website. #ROKBOXEditorials "Reuse is the poster child for a deliciously appealing sustainability sweet spot; it’s a cost-saving exercise with environmental benefits." How much money can art galleries, collectors and fine art dealers actually save by using circular products for art shipping? Hear from Thomas Dane Gallery, Christie's, Ortuzar Projects, Gander & White Shipping, and see the cost-benefit analysis that illustrates a fairly compelling point.
