  • 🌟 Featured Project: Hardwick Old Hall 🌟 As part of November’s Practice of the Month, we’re thrilled to highlight another exceptional project by Donald Insall Associates: Hardwick Old Hall. Built between 1587 and 1596 by Bess of Hardwick, this Grade I-listed ruin and scheduled monument stands as a testament to Elizabethan architecture. After being closed due to falling masonry, English Heritage appointed Donald Insall Associates to lead the charge in stabilizing the structure and preparing it for safe public access once again. Thanks to careful and sensitive conservation work, guided by English Heritage's Sustainable Conservation Strategy & Asset Management Plan principles, the site reopened after five years. Visitors can now explore the historic ruins, including the stunning 400-year-old plaster friezes that intricately depict plants, animals, and decorative motifs. To ensure their preservation, external renderings were reintroduced, allowing these artistic treasures to be enjoyed for generations to come. 🖼️ Images (Photo Credit: Damian Griffiths): 1️⃣ Hardwick Old Hall ruins 2️⃣ Hardwick Old Hall ruins close to Hardwick Hall 3️⃣ Plaster friezes in the ruins 4️⃣ Viewing platform at Hardwick Old Hall Bravo to everyone involved in this remarkable achievement! 👏 RIBA RIBA Yorkshire York Architectural Association #Conservation #Heritage #HardwickOldHall #DonaldInsallAssociates #HistoricPreservation #EnglishHeritage #Architecture

  • Exploring Cannon Hall: A Day of Architectural Insight Yesterday, we had the pleasure of attending a building visit in collaboration with the York Georgian Society and the Georgian Group Ltd. Hosted at Cannon Hall, this fascinating event offered us an inside look at the ongoing roof repair project at this outstanding Grade-II* listed property. The tour, led by project leaders Donald Insall Associates provided an incredible opportunity to learn about the careful and detailed approach taken to restore and preserve this historic building. The dedication and expertise of the team were truly inspiring—showing how heritage and innovation can go hand in hand. A big thank you to everyone involved for making this event possible! Experiences like these are invaluable for both practicing architects and future professionals, offering a rare chance to learn directly from live restoration projects. #Architecture #HeritagePreservation #ListedBuildings #BuildingVisit #DonaldInsall #CannonHall #GeorgianArchitecture #RoofRestoration #ArchitecturalInspiration #RIBAFutureArchitects
