On Friday 22nd November, tenants in Geldeston and Loddon attended our Community Skip Day. With the sun shining brilliantly on a cold and crisp day, staff worked under blue skies alongside tenants who were especially happy to have help clearing their gardens. In Geldeston, one particular household benefited in numerous ways: a Mum and two teenagers (woken especially early for the occasion!) brought items to the skip and lent a wheelbarrow for the larger items. We were also able to offer an Essential Grant for a Bulky Waste collection to another family who had electrical items to dispose of. Andrew Wade from Geldeston Parish Council joined us for a walk around and was delighted with the amount of rubbish we cleared from the car park as well as gardens where tenants were struggling. Neighbourhood Officer Debs Johnson said: ‘A huge thank you to everyone who made it such a brilliant event.’ Attended by: Neighbourhood Officers Debs Johnson, Gareth Smart, Matt Underwood. Neil Belson, Health & Safety Manager, Jenna Cole CCT, Augustine Edema, Citizens Advice, Ali Pridmore from South Norfolk & Broadland Council Environmental Health Team and Andrew Wade from Geldeston Parish Council. Today marks the start of 16 Days of Action Against Domestic Violence - a global campaign aimed at raising awareness and taking action to end domestic and gender-based abuse. We’ve spoken to Jenny, our new Domestic Abuse and Safeguarding Specialist, about the important role she’s taken on, and how she hopes to support tenants at Saffron. Q. What are you looking forward to most about your new role? A. I’m so thrilled to be joining Saffron Housing Trust as Domestic Abuse and Safeguarding Specialist. This is a really important role and will focus on raising awareness, developing resources and policies and ensuring the highest level of care and support. Q. How will you help Saffron to continually improve their services? A. Over the coming months I will be working to achieve the DAHA (Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance) accreditation for Saffron Housing. This accreditation will reflect the organisation’s commitment to meeting safeguarding and statutory duties and will improve staff wellbeing and safety and enhance partnerships and collaborations. The DAHA ensures that survivors of domestic abuse receive an effective and safe response from their housing service. The accreditation will embed standards of good practice and ensure the right response at the right time. Q. What drew you to this role? A. Safeguarding has been at the heart of my career for over a decade, which is what attracted me to this exciting position at Saffron. I have extensive experience in managing advocacy across Norfolk and have concentrated in areas of Health and Social Care, including forensic and secure mental health services, community services and hospitals in both the public and private sector. My passion will always be in supporting people and I’m really proud to now be in post at Saffron and to continue this journey with them.

In honour of Remembrance Day yesterday, Saffron Neighbourhood Officer Paul Quick laid a wreath at Grigg Close in Diss. Paul commented, “I was in the Army for 22 Years and sadly lost some friends while on active duty, so remembrance plays a big part in my heart. It was an honour to lay a wreath on behalf of Saffron."

Very proud to have been part of the Independent East conference hosted by Orwell Housing Association this week, alongside Havebury Housing Partnership, Freebridge Community Housing, and Broadland Housing Group. Amazing talks also from Jonathan Walters, Kate Henderson, and Michael Appleby on the day, which offered valuable sector insight and a glimpse at how AI could enhance future service delivery in social housing. Thanks to everyone involved for organising a fantastic event!
What have we learnt so far from the new regulatory regime in Housing?
