Building thriving communities

About us

Orbit is one of the UK’s foremost housing groups, managing a portfolio of quality, safe and affordable homes for over 100,000 customers. Socially driven and commercially minded, we are a not-for-profit committed to creating a better society, building affordable homes and communities, and to do so in more socially responsible and sustainable ways. For over 50 years we’ve been a force for positive change. We have a growing property portfolio of over 46,500 affordable and social rent homes across Midlands, East and South of England. We support over 100,000 customers in differing stages of life, from those seeking their first home to customers looking for enhanced supported living and are one of the UK’s largest developers of affordable housing, building over 5,300 new homes by 2025. Our Better Days programme offers support to help our customers maintain their tenancies, develop the skills to get back into work, access grants, apply for the benefits that they’re eligible for, and manage personal finances. As part of Better Days, we run Breathing Space, a mental health support service commissioned with Mind and Aspire4u, to support customers who are experiencing difficulties with mental health issues. This service aims to prevent problems occurring or worsening, tackling the causes rather than dealing with the consequences, with the ultimate goal of enabling our customers to be in control of their lives. We are a values-led organisation and are proud of our diverse, open, and inclusive culture where all perspectives are valued. We have an active People agenda and we’re always working hard to make Orbit the best place to work for our 1,200 employees.

In honour of #Movember and #InternationalMensDay, we hosted an insightful session for our colleagues, where we discussed the importance of men’s health.   Studies show that social expectations, fear of vulnerability and a ‘tough it out’ mentality are the main reasons why men don’t address health issues early, making this discussion even more vital.   We were joined by Dr Jeff Foster (Private and NHS GP), men's health specialist, and proud author of 'Man Alive: The Health Problems that Men Face and How to Fix Them’.   During the session, we explored the challenges many men face in prioritising their health, the life-saving importance of visiting your GP, and how we can break down the barriers that keep men from seeking the support they need.   A big thank you to Dr Jeff Foster and everyone who joined this important discussion on men’s health. #MensHealth #Wellbeing

This Remembrance Sunday, we remember those who served and those we lost. We reflect and pay our respects to those who sacrificed everything for our freedom. Today, we'll be laying poppy wreaths on behalf of Orbit across our regions: Woodbridge (Suffolk), Garden of Remembrance (Stratford-upon-Avon), and Alexandra Park (Hastings). Join us in reflecting as we unite to remember the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community from Britain and the Commonwealth. #LestWeForget #RemembranceSunday

We were pleased to welcome the Rt Hon Anneliese Dodds MP to our Garden House Supported Living scheme, operated in partnership with Oxfordshire Mind. During her visit, Anneliese met with customers and colleagues to discuss the importance of Supported Living in helping those with a learning disability, physical disability, or mental health need to live as independently as possible within their communities. Recent research from the NHF has shown that the UK needs at least 167,000 more supported homes by 2040, without which, some of the most vulnerable people in our society will be at risk of homelessness and further pressure will be put on the NHS and social care services. We’d like to thank Anneliese for taking the time to visit and recognising the value Supported Living brings for those who need it. “After years of uncertainty and underfunding, we welcome the Chancellor’s confirmation in today’s budget of an additional £500m under the Affordable Homes Programme and the consultation on a long-term rent settlement. Whilst we are encouraged that these measures, alongside planning reform, offer the first steps in equipping the sector with the financial capacity needed to build at scale and pace, whilst also effectively upgrading services for customers and existing homes, we must continue to be realistic that meeting the UK’s house building ambitions will take more time and funding. "We, alongside many in the sector, are ready and willing to support the Government in realising its affordable housing ambitions and look forward to hearing the detail around a new long-term Affordable Homes Programme from 2026, as well as participating in the rent settlement consultation. By working together with Government we are hopeful that we can secure the long term funding certainty needed, coupled with appropriate protections for customers, to ensure we can make the necessary strategic investments to build more homes as well as make our existing homes greener, and therefore cheaper to run for customers, as well as support the nation in reaching net zero.” Phil Andrew, Group Chief Executive at Orbit
