COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS with Sailors' Society! It's Christmas Eve and while children around the world are excitedly awaiting the arrival of Santa, many seafarers will be struggling. Christmas can be tough for those at sea and for their families back home. Separated by miles, time zones and limited Wi-Fi bandwidth, just wishing those you love a Happy Christmas can be hard to do. It's understandable that many of the men and women who brought you your presets this Christmas, won't be feeling very festive. That's why we offer a seafarer-focused counselling service that’s available 24/7. On the end of the phone is someone who can talk to them, often in their first language. Someone who can listen, offer advice, refer to other support services, help them contact family and support them through these difficult times. And our helpline is for life, not just for Christmas! Our grateful thanks go to the UK Maritime Pilots Association for supporting our work at their recent AGM. The UK’s maritime pilots ensure safe transit in and out of ports and waterways during what is a high-risk point of a ship’s passage. But the role can bring with it isolation, poor mental health and even suicidal thoughts. That is why we have joined with the United Kingdom Maritime Pilots’ Association (UKMPA) to provide a first for all UK maritime pilots - access to their own dedicated mental health and wellbeing support. Building on Sailors’ Society’s acclaimed Wellness at Sea programme, Campaign Safe Haven provides a unique and holistic solution, supporting pilots’ mental health, reducing feelings of isolation and anxiety, building community and reducing accidents. COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS Twas the week before Christmas and all through the ship nothing was stirring not even a mouse. That was because the crew weren't feeling that festive - they didn't even have Christmas tree But when the crew contacted our chaplain Frans Sahetapy and asked if he could help source them a tree - we were delighted to help. A generous donation from one of Sailors' Society Head Office team meant the crew had a fully decorated tree to grace their mess and get them in the festive mood. Being a sea at Christmas can be tough, that's why we are here for seafarers 24/7. Our helpline, Peer-to-Peer Support Groups and our crisis team are on hand whatever the issue - even when it's just sourcing a bit of Christmas cheer. #Maritime #ShippingIndustry #Christmas24
