NEW WORK: Loadhog: A purpose-led framework for growth Founded as an employee-owned business, Loadhog has always taken the views of its employees seriously. So, when they asked us to help them develop a new purposeful framework to help deliver their plans for growth, we knew we needed to engage as many people as possible. Through a series of workshops, we helped the team at Loadhog develop their compelling purpose and a vision and mission which will help them to achieve the goals they’ve set themselves over the next five years. By engaging with the entire workforce, we’ve helped them uncover their authentic values and, in their strategic planning, Loadhog have been able to connect these values back to vision, mission and purpose, and everyday tactics. Finally, we’ve helped them bring all the work together in a compelling story and presentation that can help communicate the work to their various stakeholders. Counting down the days to the EAO Conference 2024! On the 26th and 27th of November, our team (Andy, Arabella, Harry & Michelle) will be facilitating sessions, exhibiting, and basking in the sunshine of all things employee-owned, at the EOA’s yearly conference in Telford. We’re thrilled to be hosting learning sessions on both the internal and external communication of employee-ownership alongside Interaction learning and development, and representatives from John Lewis Partnership, LOADHOG & Answer Digital. We’ll also be exhibiting in the main hall, offering guidance and support to EO businesses of all ages looking for effective solutions to communication, engagement and cultural challenges. This event really is one of the highlights of our year, and the conversations we have are immensely valuable. And, as always, we’re looking forward to meeting old friends and making new ones. #employeeownership #employeeowned #EOAConference2024

Welcoming old friends back into the fold It’s with great pleasure to announce the appointment of our new Head of Client Services, Michelle Jamieson. Having worked in agencies for the last 18 years, Michelle brings a wealth of experience and gravitas to expand and enhance our client services. And, whilst Michelle lands in a new version of Salad (now 100% employee-owned) it’s actually the second time she’s joined, having originally joined the team back in 2017. We were sad to lose her in 2019, but we’re beyond proud that she chose to apply for the role and return to her old stomping ground. Her decision to rejoin speaks volumes about our culture and vision. We’re incredibly excited about the journey ahead and can’t wait to see what we’ll achieve with Michelle back on the team! Community building through shared ownership As the last rays of summer settled on our offices in Poole we hosted our third event, specifically focussed on sharing stories and strategies from local employee-owned businesses. A mix of old friends and some new faces were engaged by our first panel session format, featuring Liam Toms from Grapevine, Oliver Puddle from DustScan, Sam Moles from Stephens Scown and Jess Comolly-Jones REC CMI Commoly-Jones from Rubicon. We are so grateful for the community of local, like-minded, people-positive businesses and grateful for all the people who show up to help us all build businesses with people at their core. You can read all about our latest event in our recent blog, follow the link in the comments 👇 #employeeownership #knowledgesharing #networking #BeautifullyEffective

Why should you care about company values? Many businesses struggle to articulate their values. Some don’t really care what they are as long as they sound good and make an organisation seem better than it really is. But when businesses choose words that sound good, or don’t have enough, or even any, meaning, they really are doing their organisation an operational disservice. Serving as the foundation of your business’ identity, values guide behaviours and decision-making, providing a clear sense of purpose across any organisation. In our recent blog, our Strategy & Creative Director, Harry Pocknell, argues for values that are actually valuable, authentic and usable. In just over a week we’ll be opening the doors for our latest Employee Ownership (EO) Networking event. This time we’re delighted to bring in 4 panelists to discuss activity since going EO - what’s worked, what’s been challenging and how it’s impacted employee engagement. We’ve carefully chosen our panellists to represent a diverse range of EO businesses: ➡️ Sam Moles Digital Marketing Manager & Employee Trustee of Stephens Scown Based in Devon, Cornwall and London, Stephens Scown is a team of over 350 people. They were the UK’s first large law firm to go EO, are a B Corp, and have been featured in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2024 list. Sam is somewhat a superstar of the EO world, organising monthly online events and winning Employee Owner of the Year at last year's EOA Conference. ➡️ Jess Comolly-Jones REC CMI-Jones Co-Managing Director at Rubicon People Partnership Jess recently assumed the role of Co-Managing Director, alongside her colleague Terry Porter. This transition marks a significant change in leadership, as they take over from the company's founder and former owner. As part of this restructuring, a newly formed Trust Board has also been established. Based in Poole, the company has been EO for the past 3.5 years and currently employs 35 staff. ➡️ Oliver Puddle, Acting MD of DustScanAQ With 14 employees, Oxford-based DustScanAQ has been trading for 20 years and EO for 6 years. Oliver has been with the business for 17 years and witnessed first hand the transition, succession and progression of the business. The business achieved financial freedom in 2021 after they completed the share acquisition from their founder and former owner. ➡️ Lesley Keets, Chief Operating Officer of Blue Sky Financial Planning Ltd Lesley joined Blue Sky just after they transitioned to EO in December 2022 to coincide with their 20th anniversary. As COO, Lesley has joined their founder Gary on the board and has been witness to the many changes and investments the business of 20 people has made in embedding their EO culture. Celebrating distinctiveness in branding, and in life In our most recent blog our Head of Design, Jon, discusses how he’s dealt with what makes him distinct, and how it influences the way he approaches the work of visual identity. In a world where trends make everything look similar, we focus on uncovering and amplifying what makes each brand unique. Whether it's Passenger's murmuration-inspired graphics or Symbio's custom illustrations, we believe in creating identities that truly stand out.
